maleficent the movie is not a live action remake. it just fundamentally is a different take on the story of sleeping beauty. there are similarities of course, but it has an entirely different plot, world, theme, and aesthetic. this is the kind of movie i can get behind if disney cannot stomach making wholly original projects.
like please disney! give us the story of the fairy godmother from cinderella. make her the child hood friend of the step mother.
tell the story of ursula and triton. two siblings who were torn apart.
they did it with cruella which i did like, but ultimately less than malefecent, but like genuinely, if you cannot do anything new, at least make the live actions distinguishable from their animated counter parts.
you also haven’t used all the fairy tales yet:
- hansel and gretel
- rumpelstilken
- swan lake
- snow white and rose red (very different story from snow white)
- 12 dancing princesses
not to mention, that there are undoubtedly less commonly known fairytales that aren’t from europe that people FROM THAT CULTURE would love the opportunity to create. whatever disney.

Maleficent review
This movie was absolutely magnificent. Beautiful. It was heartfelt and comical. It was a story and a lesson. It was beauty and the beast (not really) but you'll get what I mean when you see it. Angelina Jolie has out done herself. Do yourself a favor and see it in Imax 3d. The costuming spot on, the graphics breath taking. The animation, more subtle than expected. Lived up to my expectations and more. Maleficent the magnificent . Well, Well you'll find yourself full of feels so be strong my dears be strong.

I ADORED the disney sleeping beauty (still do) and now this version looks beautiful.
AND ANGELINA JOLIE!!
