What they're doing with Supergirl is just making me sad. There's tons of queercoding that never leads anywhere. They do so sloppy character backstories, and even the main character's motives feel so powerless now. Kara has no character developement. It feels like they've dropped so many things from previous season(Alex wanting to be a mother for example).
You have so many characters all over the place with little and sloppy backstories and development of motives. William's and Andrea's backstories are weak(I had the same feeling with Lockwood's backstory bad it has gotten even worse since then). The execution on the producers' ideas is so weak, the budget is low but they are overextending so much.
What they're doing with Lena feels so out of character. Don't get me wrong, I might not like Lena being evil, but I get why you'd want to go there. You have to build up to it though, especially because you're playing in a trope that contradictive. She's following dark paths, trying to avoid her family's name, but being like them in the end. We haven't seen that till now. Lena was always a bit gray, but she knew exactly the limits and she was actively doing good. Now, suddenly, she has clouded judgement, doing exactly what her family does, justifying it with the "Do no harm" thing. What's different from Lex here? He started out the same way, trying to protect from a potential unknown threat, in the name of good. Lena knows all these, she knows the ways her family has done harm hidden in the shadows for years, she knows of manipulation and emotional abuse, and suddenly she goes and does the exact same thing, instead of simply going to therapy(for starters). Built up to it correctly. I dont feel it.
Lena reacts like a hurt 15yo who cant understand the difference between things and feelings. This feels forced. She's becoming an abuser, but it isn't shown correctly. We don't see the development of the circle of abuse(ok, it is wrong to think that the abused always become abusers, but they're going there in this show, and they're not even doing it well).
It is not well developed, the same way Andrea's storyline feels forced. The same way William's presence feels forced. I dont have a problem with introducing new characters, it just feels all over the place and underdeveloped right now. Malefik's presence was a bit better established I think, and Kelly's, well, it felt a bit forced but they've worked a bit good her relationship with Alex so she feels a bit more in place than everything else knew in this season.
Sipergirl feels all over the place. You got so many characters, so many big bads, so many storylines, alongside the crossover, I forget what show I'm watching and what exactly is happening. It's a mess and it's sad.
