I know we’re all in a Stydia frenzy right now (trust me, half of my brain is basically curled up in a ball, rocking back and forth, and humming “Not Just a Girl” by She Wants Revenge, and replaying the sneak peek clip on loop), but I just want to throw something out here unrelated to either half of our beloved ship.
I was just thinking of difficult (well, it was weird and and new and a little uncomfortable) it was for me to get used to wearing a bra when I first started wearing a training bra. I mean, first you have to wear a training bra daily, just to get used to the sensation of wearing something there daily, then you move up to bras that fit you (and for some of us, which get bigger and bigger until you need to upgrade to a bra with underwire). But that’s after years of training the skin on your chest. Also in my elementary school experience, I was the first among my fellow female classmates to wear a training bra (in the 5th grade), so I’m assuming that girls starting wearing training bras at the time or later (I’m assuming, mind you, I’m sure it’s different in other schools).
My point is, Malia was turned into a coyote when she was 9, and was turned back into a human 8 years later; imagine that aspect of re-integrating into society: getting used to wearing a bra.
Now, I know that she isn’t exceedingly busty, but she’s not perfectly flat either, so I’m sure that she has to wear a bra.
lol, so now I have these headcanons of her hating wearing one (grumble, grumble, ”I never had to wear this stupid thing in the woods,”) or just complaining (“human breasts are stupid and useless, and they get in the way of everything,” “why do humans put up with this”), and being unembarrassed when someone points out that a strap is showing because she doesn’t care and doesn’t know why other people do (someone points out that her bra strap is showing: “yeah, so?”/ “okay, your underwear is showing because your pants are so low” “Malia” “What? I thought we were stating the obvious”).
And I know that in season 4 she’s basically living with Stiles and his dad (instead of her actual dad, which is stupid because they really need to bond and build a new rapport since they’re all they have and she called him her dad for the first 9 years of her life which makes him more of her dad than Peter Hale but nevermind what do I know about building healthy relationships -_-), but I doubt that either of them could go bra-shopping with her. One, the sheriff is busy, and two, why on earth would you go clothes-shopping for girl clothes with Stiles Stilinski, when you yourself have no idea what you should or shouldn’t wear (what would he know about clothes-shopping for women? I mean, I doubt that he was able to pick up that skill from Lydia)??
So I believe that Kira and Lydia (who set aside her grief and jealousy) took her under their wings and took her clothes-shopping one day (”you can’t wear the clothes you brought to Eichen, you need a better wardrobe”). Lol, just imagining them getting her fitted for a bra, the faces Malia must be pulling as the associate measures her XD. Malia picking up underwear and asking “what’s a ‘thong’?” and Lydia blushing and explaining (to the girl who basically lives at Stiles’ house) what those are, then paling when Malia--after trying on a pair and deciding she likes them--says she wants those for her underwear. Kira geeking out over themed t-shirts and throwing a couple Malia’s way for her to try on (”What? She could like t-shirts”). Lydia finding bits of clothing she knows that Allison would have liked/ worn and letting her cheery, determined “we’re on a mission to properly clothe Malia” mask slip for a moment as the sadness/ grief washes over her again, before she’s snapped out of it by Kira or Malia. Malia deciding she likes short-shorts more than skirts (they leave her legs bare, and after wearing Eichen House’s ineffective sweatpants for so long she doesn’t want to wear anything that covers her; also she misses the feeling of being warm, but she misses the feeling of wearing nothing more).
And I know that she was briefly living with her dad for a while before going to Eichen, and that she wears a bra in Eichen (a-ha, a-ha, yes we can actually confirm this *turns green and tries not to be sick remembering that awkward scene in the basement*), but I believe that whatever clothes she wore (including bras) before Eichen must have been her mothers’ or something (she and her dad were barely communicating, do you honestly think that one day they drove to the store and went full-wardrobe clothes-shopping? Maybe they did, but it’s not the same as the Lydia Martin helping you shop for clothes).
Yeah, the Lydia-and-Kira-take-Malia-shopping headcanon makes me very happy now (female members of the pack bonding time! Yay!).
lol, can you believe that I got this headcanon from imagining a Stydia scene where one morning, in an intimate moment, Lydia asks Stiles to re-hook her bra for her (she can do it herself, she’s just offering him the opportunity to do it for her), and he struggles like crazy until she gives up and does it herself. “Why are you inexperienced? Surely Malia-- I mean, at one point you must have--” “nah, Malia didn’t really like wearing bras.” Which got me thinking about Malia getting used to wearing bras after living in the wild with no clothes at all.
