I accidentally posted 2 chapters in one day, sooooo… after 83k words, the slow burn ignites!
As soon as I finished this bit, I figured I’d share it. I know @ryttu3k will like it.
“Yeah, thanks for pretty much sayin’ I talk like a stupid fuckin’ goomba. Real flatterin’ of ya.”
Anatole shrugged. “Our clan knows better than any how useful it is to be underestimated.”
“Right…” Mercurio picked at his necklace. He wondered how long before he’d have to put the beads on a new leather cord.
“It will be a while yet,” Anatole said. “It is very well made, crafted with much love and care.”
He didn’t apologize when Mercurio glared at him for doing it again, he just smiled.
“Speaking of love and care,” Mercurio said. “When are you gonna go see Beckett in person?”
The question finally wiped the smile off Anatole’s face. He didn’t answer.
“You gotta!” Mercurio said. “Writin’ him to say ‘sorry for throwin’ you into for my clan’s blood orgy pit, you’ll understand why I did it one night, promise,’ really didn’t fuckin’ cut it, I hope you know.”
Anatole closed his eyes, uttering a low hiss like Mercurio had just stabbed him. “It all sounds much worse when you say it like that.”
“Benefits of talkin’ like a stupid fuckin’ goomba, I guess.”
