Looking at her actually felt like looking at his own mother this time around. He felt exactly the same way he did when he saw Dorothy, guilty and conflicted, like he was looking in on something instead of actually being present. He’d found it hard to stop by her office since he’d heard details of the whole Beekman situation. Mallory was always going to be someone important to him, but at this point, so was Josefine. Their relationship, or lackthereof, hadn’t been his business until it’d escalated to...Lucian didn’t really even want to think about what’d occurred. The way Josefine had phrased it all, how she’d protested that she’d deserved it, the memory had him clutching a bit tighter at his glass of whiskey. Despite all of that, he still felt the need to say something to her, not saying something would probably just make it worse. It’s not like he didn’t know how to shut up and play the polite socialite game.
“Are you getting along with everyone this evening?” But the moment she’d gotten close enough, that plan was practically thrown out the window. He’d blame the alcohol, the fact he was alone, or sheer boredom, later. Taking a sip from his glass, he regarded her coolly. @mallorybordeaux
