These rock formations in St.Mary's Island share a heritage with Madagascar. They were torn apart when the Indian subcontinent raced off to slam into Tibet. Malpe, KA.

A Geological Altar

Columnar basalt formations look like an ancient altar. I am astonished that no one has built a temple here. (And let's not, please.) St. Mary's Island, Malpe, KA.

Each photo was taken with in-camera HDR, otherwise the contrast between the sunlit foreground and the shadowed recesses would have been far too much. The mosaicing sets up 3D perception -- cross eyes and superpose left image viewed with right eye over right image viewed with left eye, and the brain will do the rest.
