Malys
I've been playing Malys lately
get in babes, we're restoring the honmoon.💅
there are things we can do to help small game creatives, including the folks formerly at Bioware. share this on or off platform without credit to me.
i want us to build the environment we need for games to flourish in the middle of the dumpster fire.
Play as an exorcist on a quest to protect the innocent in this demonic roguelite deckbuilder from the creators of "Stray Gods".
Game dev is currently in a very sorry state but if you are looking into some indie games and are interested in work of one of Dragon Age's creators (David Gaider), you should consider supporting Malys!
I really wanna see what Summerfall is cooking since Stray Gods was super fun!!
It's so funny that chuds blame AAA studios’ DEI policies for games becoming woke and involving LGBTQ chars, like Taash being in Veilguard, but the indie games from ex-BioWare devs are all woke as hell. Stray Gods and Eternal Strands both have a female protagonist and at least one major trans/nb character. Both are really good games btw.
Update
Since this post is still getting some traction, I wanted to edit to add: David Gaider’s new game Malys is out and in early access on Steam. It’s honestly a really well-made deck builder. Please support the studio if you can.
Some sketches. Trying to treat Tumblr as a place for all my artwork instead of only finished one. One day maybe I’ll be a tempered perfectionist with patience for myself.
Little steps.
Why the FUCK aren't more people talking about Malys?????
A bit of background:
Malys is a roguelike deckbuilder set in an urban occult setting á la Hellblazer. It's the second game by Summerfall studios, who also made Stray Gods. The creative director for the game, David Gaider, is the creator of Dragon Age and was the lead writer for the first two games.
The art is both gorgeous and terrifying, the writing is stellar, there's a song that plays in the menu that I have on repeat all the time ugh it's so good, and to top it off is brilliant voice acting from Mat Dwyer and Alanah Pearce.
Unfortunately the game itself is still very rough around the edges - it's prone to crashing and each individual run is very feast or famine. But the game has been in 1.0 for barely two weeks and this is the kind of thing that can be easily tweaked.
So far I've only found ONE piece of fanart, and there's ZERO fanfic on AO3 I'm going insane someone please draw Gideon I want to throw him against a wall.
Anyway, I'm off to write fanfiction for the first time in 5 years.
Play as an exorcist on a quest to protect the innocent in this demonic roguelite deckbuilder from the creators of "Stray Gods".
You ride into a dark and forbidding city in the dead of night. It’s a city festering with evil, teeming with demons that have taken possession of the innocent, and somewhere among them lies the target of your hunt: Malys, a demon of extraordinary cunning and power.
As Noah, former priest turned exorcist and demon hunter, you’re armed with your faith and a variety of tools ranging from the holy to the dark and arcane… but you’ll need much more for this hunt, and there will be precious few allies to provide them.
Kickstarter ends May 22!
