*Everyone except Sonic, Sage, and Vanilla screams, jumping back away from them. Sage just looks up at Vanilla, confused* ... Is this meant to be frightening?

Did Sage and the Chaotix Family manage to get away on the vacation before it was too late?

*Unfortunately, no. Sage wakes in the morning feeling heavy for the first time in her life. Like she has mass. Like she isn't just a hologram. She sits up, blinking bleary eyes as she hears heavy footsteps outside the kids' room. She climbs out of bed and shuffles to the door, opening it and poking her head out. Vanilla and Vector are standing in the hall, whispering. Both of them are made entirely of metal, but the immobile faces they wear can't hide their worry. Espio is standing in the living room behind them, texting. He looks completely unbothered. Sage steps out of her room, studying them* ..... Your mechanic forms... They are not unsimilar to your organic ones.

Oh! *Vanilla startles at Sage's entrance to the conversation* Oh, Sage- Darling, you didn't change, oh thank goodness.

... I... Didn't..? *She looks down at her hands. They look the same* .... I don't understand.

Here, take a look in the mirror, kiddo. *Vector gestures to the hallway mirror that hangs at twice Sage's height*

*Sage nods and tries to float up to it. All she does is stand on her toes. She grunts and tries again. Nothing* .... What..?

*Vanilla crouches and gently brushes back Sage's bangs, studying her face closely* ... My word... You're organic, but.. But you look like..

What? ... Please.. let me see? *Sage grabs her hand. Vanilla carefully scoops her up and takes her to the mirror. Sage looks into it. Her appearance is the same as before, but.... Her skin is warm. She can touch her hair. She's organic. She's a mobian. But... Rare. Likely the only human mobian other than Eggman left* .... I am... Created in Eggman's image.. even now.

*Vanilla watches her expression, speaking gently* How do you feel, honey...?

Hey Vanilla it is fine if Sage wants to invite her big brother for dinner at your place right? He's a robot so he can't actually eat so you don't even have to make any extra food. She's really worried about not getting to see him anymore since he disowned their dad for attacking/hurting his friends. 😥

Oh my... Yes, of course he's welcome. Anytime. A boy like that needs people around him who truly care. He's free to bring anyone he wants to, as well. Sage is like a part of our family, so he is, too. And anyone who's friends with these two is a friend of our family. I'll be sure to have a talk with that horrible man about his lack of parenting skills.

Hey Sonic, Vanilla and her family are visiting the bigass house right now. I think Vanilla is on her way up to say hi to you. Just warning you in case you'd be startled by a knock or someone popping in after hanging out alone for a while. 😅

*There's a soft knock on the door. Sonic looks up from his mom's altar, wiping his eyes* Yeah? Come in!

*Vanilla opens the door, stepping inside. She smiles at him* Hello, Sonic.

Oh, Vanilla! *Sonic starts pushing himself to his feet, wincing. Vanilla hurries over and touches his shoulder*

You don't have to stand. Is it alright if I join you?

Uh.. Yeah, sure. *He sits back down, Vanilla joining him on the floor. She quietly observes the collection of items on the table. Sonic watches her for a moment, then looks back at the table* ... I miss her a lot.. Especially today..

*Vanilla nods* Of course you do.. She's your mother.

Yeah.. *He wipes his nose* She's the one who taught me to never give up. To keep running even when I feel like falling down.

She sounds incredible.

She was. *He smiles a little* ... She'd love these people.. my family. I wish she were here to meet them..

*Vanilla nods, turning her gaze to watch him. She gently touches his arm* I'm sure she would love them, Sonic..

*He looks up at her, smiling with teary eyes* .. Did Shadow send you..?

Thank you Vanilla! You're the best! You actually have already been friends with his friends too I'm pretty sure. You see Sage's big brother is Metal Sonic and since he started dating Amy Rose he's becoming friends with the rest of her friends too and he's living at their bigass house. Neat huh? ☺️

Oh, Metal Sonic is in a relationship with Amy Rose? How sweet! I never considered them together, but now that you mention it, they do sound cute together! Yes, she and her friends are welcome anytime. They've always been incredibly kind to me and my family, but especially to Cream. She doesn't know a lot of children her age, so it's lovely to know she has people who are there to support and encourage her anyway. Speaking of which, perhaps I should invite Charmy and Espio over as well.. I know they're busy, but Cream does miss her bee friend. Anyway, I'm really glad to hear that Metal is creating friendships with Amy and the others! That can't be easy, given their history..
