I can see sonic trying to approach with dialogue and sharing his own story with shadow, as if to empathise with him.

But Shadow doesn't care, and even sees incongruities and hypocrisy in his actions, judging Sonic's affection for Longclaw.

More Sonic AU sorry :P it’s the Sonic family tree🌲 which is bigger than I thought it would be lol

- When Hidden Palace Zone fell to Robotnik, Zone Guardians Lapis (they/them) and Lazuli (she/her) sent their triplets away to different Zones for safety

- Clear (Sonia in this AU) went to Windy Valley Zone to be raised by Zone Guardian Longclaw

- Sonic was sent to Green Hill Zone to be raised by Zone Guardians Maddie and Tom

- Manic was intended to be sent to Mushroom Hill Zone with General Acorn, but was intercepted by Team Hooligan in the Casino Nights Zone! Though Nack intended to hold him for ransom, he loves his adopted son and fawns over him haha

- Sonic adopted Tails as his sibling after rescuing them

- The triplets reunite after all being captured by Robotnik, and later with their birth parents 👍🏻

That all came to my mind right after seeing a old post from @shebsart about the Night's Watch oath.

Defnitely one of the very few artists that I really like when it comes to portraying the North beyond the wall.
