. Que viva la creatividad y el arte. #TelAviv #Israel #StreetArt #Crochet @IsraelinPanama (en Tel Aviv, Israel) https://www.instagram.com/p/ByN2hc5gnNB/?igshid=1g1vyse9ndxhw

Musa has proof Dr M was present during Memali
By Michael Murty
KUALA LUMPUR, April 4:
In 1985, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was advised to postpone his trip to China during the Memali incident, but he insisted on going.
Tun Dr Musa Hitam said he advised Mahathir to do it based on these reasons; the incident was happening in his own home state of Kedah, the incident involved Muslim Malays, by postponing the trip it could have made him look like he prioritised and cared about what was happening in the country.
“Mahathir was around on the day of the bloodshed (Nov 19, 1985) but later still decided to leave the country,” he said in a press statement.
On March 31, The Rakyat Post published an photo (courtesy of the New Straits Times) which showed Mahathir at the Subang airport before his flight to China a day after the incident.
Musa said the point of bringing up the incident was only to clear his name of any responsibilities he would have assumed as the acting prime minister and not to stir up any new polemic on the incident.
“The claims that I was the acting prime minister at the time because Mahathir was overseas was ‘incorrect’ based on proof that I still have that he was in the country on the day of the incident.
“He was also present during the briefing by the acting Inspector-General of Police at the time, at his office on the day of the incident.”
Musa said he had suggested and later presented the Memali incident in Parliament for debate on Nov 20, 1985.
“I have brought this fact up several times and even in court when Mahathir was the PM, but no media was interested in publishing it. I hope with this new revelation, a more constructive and positive discussion about the incident can emerge.
“I am just happy I am able to correct an incident in the history of the country that involved me,” he added.
Dr Mahathir and former Finance Minister Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah have both said they do not remember details of the incident.
A team of close to 200 policemen laid a military blockade in the village of Memali in Baling, Kedah, in November 1985, where 400 people led by Ibrahim Libya stayed.
Ibrahim was a religious preacher who ran a religious school and was accused of deviant teachings.
According to reports, the incident led to the deaths of 14 civilians and two policemen as well as the detention of 36 people under the Internal Security Act.
Last Thursday, Musa had alleged at a political forum in Kota Baru that Dr Mahathir was in Kuala Lumpur and “continued to stay 2 to 3 days” in the city after the 1985 incident.
Previously, it was reported that Dr Mahathir had been in China at the time, leading a delegation there after the country established diplomatic relations with the republic years before that.
In an earlier report, The Rakyat Post managed to get hold of one of the delegation members of the 1985 China trip.
The delegation member, who wanted to remain anonymous, said he remembered the trip, although not the exact date as it was almost 30 years ago, but confirmed Dr Mahathir was present.
Several newspaper articles found in online archives also placed Dr Mahathir in China during the period Musa claimed the former was in Kuala Lumpur.
The Singapore Straits Times, on Nov 20, 1985, carried an article from Bernama titled “Mahathir to call on Zhao today”, referring to Zhao Ziyang, the Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China.
