El Mamut

When you live in a tourist destination, you never really get round to doing the main attractions unless you have friends who are 'on holiday' visiting. Sometimes my guests just want to drink beer and be hung-over, other times they prefer to go exploring and then ring me at 2am saying they are stuck up a mountain and it's raining. Never the less this weekend I have two friends visiting who I can show around the sights of Barcelona.

When a fresh eye looks upon the Arc de Triumph it is nice to see how magnificent it is in them and consequently their snap happy finger tips. Not that I shun it's excellence but I pass beneath it's groin daily and so I feel the sensation to look up it's skirt escapes me. When a virgin foot treads the ground of el parc cuitadella it is a pleasure to hear such positive words in praise of the atmosphere, lush grass and smiling sun.

This parc is great. Lots of hidden surprises, scattered in a clump like the mind of a  lazy mother who has left no time to hide the treasures in the Easter egg hunt. When me and my tourist buddies arrive at El Mamut, we wait in line to get the standard 'sat in the mamut trunk picture' everybody takes when they visit the park. I go first and seeing no chance of sitting on the trunk I just do a cheeky little lean. My friend is not satisfied she wants arse on trunk NOW so I do as I'm told and jump. A massive sound cracks across the park, birds flock and an ariel picture of earth hears it's echo. The Americans who are looking at what they look like in the pictures they just took look up, like meerkats.

'OH MY GOD ARE YOU OKAY? We never saw it but we heard it'. Always about them, ha.

I was in so much pain. I hadn't noticed the mamuts trunk curl above my head so the impact created an instant bump and all the blood rushed to my head, in a hurry but not enough to actually bleed. I felt dizzy, unlucky and stupid. With a cartoon bump on my head we made our way to the nearest café.

At the bar, I requested some ice and the bar man looked at me.

'Que pasa' 'EL MAMUT' (I act out what happened with concussive emphasis) 'Oh pobre mira' (he shows me his glasses that are broken, before his sickened face states) el mamut'

Another man approaches with his story about what the mamut did to him and before you know it the whole café is engaged in a mamut exchange. A man with three teeth grabs my head and kisses it sayin in Spanish: 'never mind the mamut'.

The café gave me a bag of ice and I walked home with a new hat on top of my head, dizzy and delirious I lay on my bed and closed my eyes to the image of the mamut.

Now if you please I think we will have a song. A song about a similar Mamut, I didn't write it I just liked it.
