Scripting: In-Depth Pt 2
Methods P1
There are many differing ways you can write out your script and it is mostly up to personal taste. I will try to go over all the differing ways to script in the next couple of parts in this series.
Note: Names are just for your convenience and not the actual names of the scripting types as most of them don’t have official names.
BASIC/ FILL-INS:
This is a way where you write out your script in very short blurbs. It’s one of the more popular ways to script and is also one of the most simple ways.
Example:
Name: X
Age: X
Description or photo: XXX
Special abilities: XXXX
General information: XXX
Best friend: X
Parent 1: X
Parent 2: X
Pet: X
Usually, there are other varying fill-in spaces like ‘super powers’ or ‘wand’ depending on where you want to shift to. I think this way of scripting is popular because there are a lot of them for some of the more popular DRs.
This is a good way to script if you already have a very good idea of what your DR looks like and where your going.
Though, I do not recommend using this version of scripting for custom DRs as they tend to rely on having a lot of implied information that you know but don’t write down. I also don’t recommend using this as the sole form of scripting for any DR because it is super simplified. That being said its a very good place to start if you are new to shifting and the idea of starting a script feels overwhelming.
FREE FORM/PARAGRAPH
This is where you write everything out yourself and tends to be more detailed then the previous form.
This way tends to be written like: your personal traits and appearance and then things you want applied to yourself, followed by your surroundings, then lastly people and their relationship to you.
Example:
I am (XXX), I am (x) years old and have (x) hair and look like (x). I am a very (x) person and everyone who sees me thinks I am (x). I am very good at (x) and (x) and am one of the best people at (x). I can (x) and I have the ability to (x)
I have (x) friends. I get (x) grades in school and have (x) as a pet. I live in a (x) in (x). I go to school at (x) and my grades are (x).
My parents are (x). I have a (x) relationship with them.
My best friend is (x) and my friend group is (x). I am in a relationship with (x). My friends and I (x) and I am (x).
Etc.
This is one of my favorite methods because it allows you to script the details that are the most important to you and can be very personal. On the down side its much easier to get caught up in little details and forget things when you script this way. I recommend you be very self aware while writing this out and read through regularly to try and avoid any mistakes.
