what if an ostrich killed Paul Manafort and made a jacket out of his skin
Another juror said she and her peers wanted to convict President Trump’s former campaign chairman on every charge.
For a criminal conviction, all twelve jurors must agree unanimously on the defendant’s guilt. The verdict against Paul Manafort, as you’ll recall, included guilty verdicts on eight of the 18 counts, meaning the jury voted 12-0 on those eight charges. It now turns out that the jury vote on all ten of the other charges was 11-1 in favor of Manafort’s guilt.
Paula Duncan, one of the jurors in Paul Manafort’s trial, identifies herself “as a Trump supporter.” She believes the prosecutors’ true motive for pursuing Manafort was “to try to get the dirt on Trump, or hoping that he would flip on Trump.” She “remained quiet about her political beliefs” during jury selection, though, and she candidly admits: “I did not want Paul Manafort to be guilty.”
Despite this, after reviewing the evidence, Duncan had to conclude Manafort was guilty on all 18 counts, beyond a reasonable doubt. And ten of her eleven fellow jurors agreed. Only one woman--who “side[d] with the majority at first”--ultimately changed her mind and insisted she had reasonable doubt about Manafort’s guilt on ten charges. But that was enough to prevent more guilty verdicts, which require juror unanimity.
Now, whether the jurors voted 11-1 or 1-11 obviously doesn’t change the outcome: the judge declared a mistrial on those ten counts. So why does this matter? Because the prosecution is currently determining whether to retry Manafort on those counts. I’d say this information--especially from a juror who was predisposed against the prosecution--makes a retrial look pretty good.
Paul Manafort faces a maximum of 80 years in prison for his conviction Tuesday on eight charges of bank and tax fraud.

Trump’s former campaign manager and convicted felon, Paul Manafort faces:
a maximum of 15 years in prison for the tax fraud charges
a maximum of five years for the one charge of failing to report a foreign bank or financial account
a maximum of 60 years for the two bank fraud charges, which each carry a maximum sentence of up to 30 years.
If Manafort passes, can he pay it forward... to someone of his choice? #TRE45ON
What do you think would happen if Trump pardoned Manafort right now? Could he actually do that?
The President has nearly absolute power when it comes to pardons (for federal cases). Legally, he could totally pardon Manafort and there isn’t a damn thing that anybody could do to stop it.
But President Trump would have to be even crazier than he already is to do that. If he blindly pardoned Manafort -- before he even went on trial -- he might as well give a nationally-televised, primetime address from the Oval Office where he just says, “I am obstructing justice” -- while speaking Russian. I bet even a few Republican Senators would publicly condemn that without retiring first (but the GOP members of the House would remain silent). And Robert Mueller would hunt him down like...well, let’s use one of Trump’s favorite phrases in a place where it actually doesn’t make sense (just like he does)...”like a dog”.
