Man from the Mountains Part 2
Summary: Dean sees YN again.
Words: None
6 Months Later
He heard footsteps and crunching of leaves when he was pulling weeds by his front porch.
“YN?” Dean took a deep breath and put his pistol back in its place on his hip. “What are you doing here?”
“Came to see how my favorite grumpy mountain gunman is doing.” YN shrugged.
“Doll, ya can’t just walk up on me like that,” Dean sighed. “Didn’t you learn that last time?” He crossed his arms.
“Sorry,” YN chuckled and put her hands up. The mountain man noticed something in her hand.
“What’s that?”
“A peace offering?” The young woman reached out her hand so that he would take it. As Dean took it, he could smell the cinnamon.
“Coffee cake?”
“Yup. Made it myself. Hope you like it.”
Impressed but too proud to grant her the satisfaction, he snorted.
“Thanks…”
“I know you will eat it because you don’t have stuff like that in your cabin. Goes good with your cup of joe in the morning, promise.” YN beamed internally. When he didn’t give a reaction, she took a deep breath and said, “good to see you, Dean. Have a good day.” YN turned and walked down the hill.
“Doll,” he called.
“Yeah?” YN looked over her shoulder.
“You drove hours to give me coffee cake?”
She chuckled.
“No. Your mean self would not draw me back here.” YN tilted her head. “But I stopped by anyway.”
He winced.
“I moved here a few weeks ago.” His eyes brightened, but he tried to hide it. “Don’t worry, it’s not next door. I know you would not want me too close, but-”
“Stop, YN”
She closed her mouth.
“Can you just stop talking for one second?”
“Bossy,” YN laughed. “What?” She crossed her arms, ready for battle with the man for the thousandth time.
“You don’t have to make excuses, doll. It really IS nice to see you.”
“A compliment from the gruff guy? Wow. I must be moving up in your world.” A Cheshire grin graced her face.
“You are… so beautiful.”
“Excuse me?” YN stepped back. Flustered, she put her fingers to her throat.
“Doll, you drive me crazy.”
“They say boys are mean to girls they like. That true?” YN crossed her arms again. Dean looked away. “I got news for you, mountain man.”
“What’s that?”
“It’s not very good manners to do that.”
“Right,” he sighed submissively. “Sorry.”
“So,” she started. “I don’t know that I feel the same. You were an ass to me after all.”
“I was,” he chuckled. “I really am-”
“You sound like me now with the apologies. Only I don’t have a gun on your back.” YN raised a brow.
“Can we… start over… please?”
YN grinned.
“If we have to…” she held out the last syllable as a whine. “I will go out with you as long as you promise to be nicer.”
“Promise,” Dean said immediately. “Scouts’ honor.” He saluted her.
“Why do I have a feeling you were kicked out of the Boy Scouts?” YN giggled.
“Because I was. Thanks for the reminder.” He scratched the back of his neck.
“Be nice, and I’ll give this a shot, grumpy man.”
“Really?” He smiled to his eyes.
“Yeah.” YN nodded. “If you dish it out, I’m going to dish it back though. We’re even now.”
“Okay, okay.” He put up his hands with a smirk. “I will not be terrible…ish.”
“You ARE terrible.” YN sighed, content. “It’s settled then.” She turned to walk away.
“Uh…” he said expectantly.
She stopped.
“Yes?” Without turning to face him, YN waited.
“Can I get your number or…” Dean asked as if it was an obvious next step.
“Eat the cake, Dean.” YN walked toward her truck and entered it. After starting the vehicle, she drove down the steep hill. Her new love interest peered into the bag. He saw a sliver of paper coming out of the loaf.
“You are something else, doll,” he said to himself.
