Bacang Kemantan

Also known as lamantan, kemantan or buniton

A sweet-sour tasting mango of which the flesh is often used in sambals or when cooking with fish, while the juice is popular for use in cordials, but of course it can also be eaten raw. The fruit's milky sap has been known to cause itching to the mouth, which can be helped by making a cut near the stalk of the fruit so the sap can drain out prior to eating it. It's botanical name, 'torquenda', translates into 'to be twisted' or 'twisting' and refers to the method by which the fruits are opened; making a cross section in the outer skin and then twisting the two halves.
