This is a good video on something I also just accepted as true, which it turns out was just hearsay from a paper that wasn't able to be substantiated– something that's been a big problem in science literature for a long time. Also good on this channel for issuing a graceful retraction since they also did presented this as fact a while back.

For spoilers: It turns out we have no evidence that ground sloths were the distributors of avocados!

The large seeds of Persea americana (avocado pear, alligator pear) always seem keen to germinate in my compost heap and will often grow when the seed is suspend over water. They make fun homegrown houseplants but need a climate without frost and with little wind to flourish outside. Plants may survive a mild frost but it may cause premature fruit drop. The germinating avocado here was part of a floral art installation at the Royal Horticultural Society Chelsea Flower Show, London.
