• PIKES PEAK COG RAILWAY • 🗣🚂 ALL ABOARD!!! If you’ve not had a chance to visit #PikesPeak and take a ride on the iconic #CogRailway, YOU NEED TO!!! The #PikesPeakCogRailway located in #ManitouSpringsCO is quite a memorable experience. • A Brief History • In the 1880’s tourists rode to the summit, 14,115 feet (4,302.25 meters) by mule!! Zalmon Simmons, founder of what became the Simmons Beautyrest Mattress Company, envisioned a more comfortable and civilized journey to the top. In 1889, construction of the Pikes Peak Cog Railway began with 150 men transporting rails, bridge-iron, and tools via wheel barrows and mules. The first passenger train arrived on the summit in June 1891 and they staked their claim as the highest rack highway in the world. 35 years later, in July 1893, Katharine Lee Bates wrote the song “America the Beautiful” after admiring the views from the top.🇺🇸 Most recently, over the last three years, the entire track was rebuilt. That’s not all…new trains, new depot, and a new Pikes Peak Visitor Center are welcoming a new era of new adventures. • My Experience • I remember growing up and taking frequent rides on the cog railway 🚂 whenever family would come to visit. Just like back then, myself and my family were just in awe of the scenery. 🏔🌲 We’d travel via cog the one hour up the mountain to the summit, where we’d enjoy the #IconicDonuts and #HotCocoa!! — PS! They still have their iconic donuts and hot cocoa!! 😍🙌🏻 We’d take our photo in front of the Pikes Peak Summit sign (as of now will be re-installed soon…there was still construction at the summit), and take in the views! These trips always brought me so much #joy and #happiness, because of the memories we were forming. I was heartbroken when they had to close, but I’m soooo thankful that Pikes Peak has re-opened!! 💜 It’s a truly incredible experience, and I look forward to many more beautiful adventures to come!
