FARMVILLE
Sounds weird but I've been living on this remote farm in nepal for about a week and it really makes me see the appeal of all those gentle, rural Vermont cults out there. We wake up at 7ish and eat breakfast, and we communally teach the very adorable, lovable little ones. After, we do some farm work—tilling soil, feeding goats and chickens, MILKING BUFFALOS, chopping grass with A SICLE!! (this I really liked)— and then we rest for a few hours, flopping around like boneless children and playing cards and reading in the sunshine. Next comes a little more farm work, some time to play with the farm’s puppies, and then more rest time until dinner. The entire evening is lots of food and tons of dancing (the farm is run by 20-something Nepalese girls) and singing and hair braiding. There’s no money, no wifi for the most part, and often no electricity at all. It’s idyllic and simple and (I wrote this in my journal and I’m sort of cringing to share it because it sounds stupid) what I imagine those rehabs for “exhausted” celebrities most be like. Except third world. And with more manual labor. And shrieking children.
CONS: 100% of the sweet, affectionate children have heads full of lice.
Also, since it's festival season in Nepal right now, the actual work to be done here is dwindling down to almost nothing, which means I might have to cut my time here by a lot. :(
