Page 06. --- Soldier Pleads Guilty to Stealing Money From Victims Lying in Halifax Morgue. --- Halifax, N.S., Dec. 29. - James Grogan, a soldier, was on trial in the Police Court to-day for the theft of $4,000 from the premises of John H. wells, whose house was shattered by the Mont Blanc cargo explosion and left unguarded for a short time, during which the money disappeared.
The money included some 25-cent scrip notes and the sergeant-major of Gregan’s corps to-day testified that the accused had some 25-cent scrips in his possession and gave him one. The case was continued.
James Burpee, of New Brunswick, who enlisted at Los Angeles in the British Expeditionary Force, pleaded guilty to-day to the theft of $200 at the morgue from the affects of victims of the explosion.
