Ever since gaining their independence, the Finns were aware that the Soviets coveted reclaiming the Karelian Isthmus. Beginning in 1920, construction on the Mannerheim line continued on and off right up until the beginning of the Winter War in 1939. This shows a view from one of the bunkers of the line. The black "Ts" provide distance reference for the gunners.
