@mannsachd. call.
‘ Okay so, like, am I just pretending I don’t see you blushing like a little schoolgirl or --- ? ’

@mannsachd .
the baby’s head fits perfectly in jamie’s palm. he’s a warm heavy weight cradled gently in jamie’s arms, and he finds that he can’t quite stop staring at him. he’d never had this before -- he’d held jenny’s children, of course, when they were so small... but never a child of his own blood that he could claim as his own. he’d not been there for either of his daughters’ births, and willie... well, willie is a completely different story that only serves to shatter jamie’s heart just a little bit more each time he thinks of it. so he chooses not to.
this day is a happy one -- the sun is shining through the sheer curtains hanging on the windows of the bedroom at river run. there’s a gentle breeze, and jamie has to restrain himself from sneezing at the slight smell of florals drifting in through the window. but he holds it back, so as to not wake his grandson.
“never really thought i’d get t’see this day,” he says softly, more to the babe than anyone, not realizing that brianna has entered the room behind him. the babe shifts a little, moves his lips, then settles deeper into sleep.

the blood test results confirm what the young woman with the american accent in his office might probably be dreading; SHE IS UNDOUBTEDLY PREGNANT. and while roger has delivered many babies and has had his fair share of patients, this one seems ...... different. not in a bad way, just ...... d i f f e r e n t. he smiles at her comfortingly and clears his throat before he delivers the news. ❛ well ...... UNCONGRATULATIONS. ye are, uh, definitely having a baby. ❜

once they are reunited, roger tries to make bree comfortable with touches and affections again; he’s secretly worried that her embracing him he made his way back home was only a spur of the moment though he’d never admit this to anyone. he’ll hold her at night when she lets him, first he’d be the big spoon ( I KNOW. SOUNDS FAKE ) but as soon as she turns towards him, he’ll hold her, kiss her hair, be so gentle. he finds he becomes unable to fall asleep without her; he always fears she’ll be gone again when he wakes up in the morning. he can’t be apart of her again.
roger feels like he cannot possibly be a good father, while he can be very traditional, he’s never seen himself as such especially because he’s an orphan. this is more of a general sentiment. he loses it completely though once he meets brianna; he’s never thought of a family because he was alone for so long, but once he’s met her, he keeps returning to the thought. he wants to be a father.
on long car rides, roger makes bree listen to every arctic monkeys album. and the killers too, but mostly arctic monkeys. ( yes, he does sing I wanna be yours to her ) oh, and the beatles!
while roger can ramble on and on and on about history, brianna is definitely the one who talks more simply by virtue of roger getting so transfixed by her because he cannot help but stare at her when she’s talking, that he tends to forget to even answer.
bonus: they watch stupid soaps and quiz shows on tv. yeah, they’re that couple.
@mannsachd : ‘tell me, is there anything i can do?‘
❛ ah, no, i think it’s fine. must be one of those contractive things yer mother was goin’ on about earlier. i think she called it that. ❜ she runs a hand across her belly with a sigh, features contorted ( though trying not contort too much ) in discomfort. the pains were normal from time to time, but they didn’t subside quickly enough. ❛ ye’d think that with this being my fourth bairn on the way, i’d have gotten used to it by now, huh ? ❜ there’s an attempt at a smile though she was evidently a little nervous. a difficult pregnancy wasn’t exactly a good sign and marsali worried for both the baby and for herself; she didn’t want anything bad to happen. ❛ i hope this boy or girl willna give me such a hard time like it is now once i’ve given birth. ❜
