Holy shit guys.
I have been a nurse for two years. And I am almost good at it! LOL.
On that note... I almost went two full years before experiencing a legit Code. I have had critical, crashing, semi-code patients a-plenty (I work in intermediate care), but a real code?.... What I learned is that all of the training you do, all of the mock codes, all of the studying.... is really, pretty much, just theoretical garbage until it actually happens. That is not to say that the training is not helpful and absolutely necessary! But... no matter how much training you get, nothing comes close to the real thing and, generally speaking, you still won’t be ready. It will seem like an hour before helps gets there. And you will second guess everything you do, say, and think, until helps gets there.
Everything I new about codes and ACLS was just an abstraction. Just a vague idea. Almost like a fictional story. There is nothing like the shock of that first moment you experience: “oh shit... this person is dying/dead right now... and I need to do something about it.” And it is all fucking terrifying. Get ready. Study it. Practice it. (Maybe even when you’re not getting paid to study/think about it! haha).
Next time will be better. And I will be much more prepared and useful. Thank the Gods my floor is just above the ICU and the intensivist himself (the head honcho) was in the room probably less than two minutes after the overhead page went off.
I got my new @fitscrubs today, damn these things are great. The ol' Medical Center won't know what hit them. #nurse #ICUNurse #Milwaukee #Wisconsin #fitscrubs #tattooed #murse #ManNurse
Dang that looks good! A lot of work for that little pin, but worth it. @moraineparktech #nurse #ManNurse #Milwaukee #Wisconsin #StarWars #stormtrooper #GlacierNationalPark #RMNP
mannurse replied to your post: I have so much on my mind tonight and I have no one to spill my guts to right now :(
Ehh? That’s what tumblr was made for.
Good point. If only people actually listened though...
