Hii, hope ure doing well. I was wondering about Mantis!reader and the boys learning abt Mantises mating rituals, is that smth? Idk but it soynds interesting! It's all up to you🖤

(Of course! I know you sent this months ago and omg I'm so sorry, I'm just now somewhat free to write! I'm also a bit sloppy again so forgive me </3. Also, it's up to yall in this lil thing if the boys are insect or human.)

Mantis! Reader and 141 boys

I know I write about secretaries a lot in these little blurbs, buuuuut... secretary mantis reader, because mantis give off secretary vibes.

Now the boys don't really have much time to sit around and talk with everyone in their building, half the time they're off fighting shit or training. The only one who has really talked to you in some way was price, since you relay messages from Laswell to him. But even so, it wasn't anything much.

With the once in a blue moon happening, all 141 boys were off for a couple of days from missions. Just the simple training and paperwork.

Cue to you carrying said folders of papers, God the endless amount of papers and reports to bring to Price. You're walking as fast as you can when WHAM! you run into someone!! papers are flying and slowly fluttering down as you sit up and processed what just happened.

"shit love, are you alright?!"

looking up you saw Gaz crouching down to help with gathering your papers. You couldn't help but squint your eyes at him, shoveling all the papers back in your arms

"Woah there, dont bite my head off!" he joked, clearly poking fun at you being a lil mantis hybrid, but light heartedly.

You couldn't help but bare your mandibles to the pretty face sergeant, standing up and quickly heading to Prices office to deliver the papers.

It just slowly spirals from there with the mantis jokes or puns. You can't lie, some of them are funny but it gets to the point. your breaking point was when Soap found it funny to comment on your size, calling you short for a mantis. (Assuming your female, if not then your still short for a male mantis.)

Cue to now, all the boys in prices office, you behind the desk instead of the captain himself as the four boys were awkwardly sitting and standing around, wishing to be anywhere else but here.

"Don't look so awkward now!" you scolded them as if you were their mother.

Your wide eyes narrowed at them, your arms crossing as your mandibles flickered.

"You all thought it was so funny to make jokes! so now its mantis sex ed."

You cleared your thought. starting to go on about your species mating act and such/

" No, the female mantis doesn't always bite off their mates' head! one, that's rare unless the female is starving with little food and there's a low chance if they're out in the wild!"

you squint your eyes at Gaz

"no we do not bite humans, no I don't thirst for man blood and no I don't just sit around and eat other hybrids! that's illegal. "

clearing your throat, you soon relaxed. A small smile on your face as you looked at their guilty expression. Price being the only one not so guilty as he doesn't have time to mess around, but you still roped him in.

"Much like birds, the males will show himself off to the female. gently touching our antennae or whatever else to see if the lady wants to mate. If accepted, they can mate for hours"

you heard price groan but ignore him.

"The females release a pheromone to signal she is ready to mate. Now are we clear!?"

a chorus of strained 'yes ma'am/sir' rung out.

you thought you got through to the boys! so you left all happy.

It wasn't until a few days later that you caught soap flexing by you with a goofy smile.

"The hell are you doing "

You sighed out, crossing your arms and turning to him in your office chair.

"Don't like the display?" Soap wiggled his eyebrows.

It took you a bit but then it hit you... he was jokingly playing the part of a male mantis and 'courting' you. With a groan you picked up your pen and threw it at him.

Dumbasses.

I was cooking this up all week when I was supposed to be sleeping but it’s okay bc it was so worth it

I’m really proud of the background, specifically the moss <(˘ ˘ ˘)>

I started this one before the other one posted at the end of my last smau (which you should go check out wink wink nudge nudge >ᴗ• !) so that’s why there’s inconsistency in the designs.

Idfk how to draw blood and I think that’s very obvious here. I really like what I did with the blood dripping from the mouth but everything else just makes me annoyed when I look at it ╮(ᵕ—ᴗ—)╭

The mantis reader stuff is so silly I love the smaus!! Also is reader like…a mantis hybrid monster humanoid kinda thing or is she just straight up A Bug

Great question! Both, really.

The thing about Mantis!reader is that they’re not actually a mantis. They are this alien/cryptid/non-human life form that can shapeshift.

Technically, they could really be anything if they wanted to be. I imagine when they first woke up on earth (I don’t rlly have a fleshed out backstory yet), it was praying mantis breeding season, so a bunch of the were just kinda around.

They kinda just decided they wanted to be a giant mantis. Since they are a shapeshifter, and have access to a human form, they could be a hybrid thing if they wanted to.

Keep in mind, Mantis!reader has no reason to conform to human beauty standards outside of luring their prey. Their hybrid form would most likely come out horrifying 😭

I love them sm too!! I was thinking abt writing a longer fic with them

My original idea was for the whole story to be a Toby x reader. Tim + Brian and Toby to get in the woods, almost die, and for Toby to somehow flirt his way into convincing mantis!reader not to kill them.

Would anyone want that? Or maybe some else? If anyone has ideas, please send me and ask!!

I would LOVE to write more for mantis!reader!!! I have an idea about a long fic, but then again I’m employed and only have the weekends off. The only reason I’m posting today is bc my boss sent us home bc of the tornado. Also, I’m glad to hear you like how I write. I personally feel like I struggle with characterization and my style is boring/hard to read.

I’m so happy to have gotten you hyped to watch V/H/S!! It’s such a good franchise (even if viral is kinda bad)!! I recommend watching Dead Meat’s kill count on them after you’ve watched the movies!! James goes in depth about the kills and behind the scenes stuff. I think you’d like it ^^

I’m thinking abt maybe a SMAU with some of the creeps teaching mantis!reader to live and love somewhat normally. Cuz yk, they kinda just walk around town and pick off “residents” if they get peckish. I’m currently working on art of what I think mantis!reader might look like. It’s not gonna be groundbreaking but I’m having fun >w<!!
