Hey antis, you want to be considerate of survivors? How about you stop calling people MAPs* over fictional ships.
I’ve seen survivors in the pro shipping community say over and over again how they get triggered when they’re accused of being MAPs or MAP discourse is randomly brought up in conversations about fiction. Even within our own servers, any discourse involving the term MAP is confined to specific channels because a lot of people want to avoid it. So bringing it up in the middle of talking about fictional ships is pretty inconsiderate to say the least.
The pro shipping community and the MAP community are entirely separate.
Yes, some people who identify as MAPs may hold pro shipping views. They may also be members of a political party and have an opinion about pineapple on pizza. That’s about as relevant as their opinion on shipping discourse. Just because a MAP likes pineapple on pizza doesn’t mean all people who like that particular topping are MAPs.
Not all pro shippers support the MAP community.
I’ve been in the pro shipping community for more than a year (not counting the recent hiatus) and I’ve seen a wide range of views on the MAP community. I’ve only met 1 pro shipper who wholeheartedly supports it. Far more pro shippers are uncomfortable with it, triggered by it, or downright loathe it. Pro ship does not equal pro MAP.
If you want to argue about fiction, that’s fine. If you want to argue about MAPs, that’s fine. But bringing up MAPs in an entirely unrelated conversation is like putting a dead bug in someone’s sandwich. It’s just rude and uncalled for and likely to trigger a panic attack.
*MAP means Minor Attracted Person. It’s a term used in psychology to describe pedophiles and other chronophiles attracted to minors. MAP discourse is commonly centered around noMAPs, no-contact MAPs who have made a decision not to harm minors and formed an online community mostly for the purpose of supporting each other.
