Results from some of the failed cyanotypes, although it didn’t work how it should, they did produce some interesting mark making, some of the prints I only partly washed and then left to dry rather than washing the whole print away as that’s what happened when reacting with the water. I tried using citric acid to save the other that washed away but no luck unfortunately.

I have now produced all calico cyanotype prints and now that they’re fully dry it’s time to iron! I had to ring as much water as I could from them so they were very crumpled.

To get a gist of creating a successful editorial, I began to look at a collection of magazines, focusing primarily of the editorial layout and especially looking at the covers of the booklet that sets the tone for what the editorial will look at 

- This cover of Frigate suggest food throughout, the glossed red lipped mouth is holding an iced cubed raspberry caped within the models teeth.

The final outcome for my ‘Map of Me’ brief will look at two different aspects of my own life, one demonstrating a passion for bar tendering and the other a way finding editorial highlighting a list of favoured establishments around the city, combining image, photography and illustration in two decorative editorial booklets

Past the terrible handwriting

I began to analysis and even interact with the maps themselves to see how easy they were to follow.

Test - (Ikon gallery map)

The aim of the test, was to time myself from millennium point to the ikon gallery and back again, once by walking and another using my bike.

Walking - the ikon gallery map estimated that it would take 15 walking distance from new street station; opting to beat this time I aimed to start my journey from new street myself and use the galleries map, halfway through my journey I opted to use my phone map as the design of the galleries map was difficult to understand. 

Final time walking there and back - 35 minutes timed

Bike- using my bike the aim was to beat the timed 35 minutes by using numerous shortcuts around the city opting not to use the ikon gallery map but google maps instead it took 18 minutes timed to and from the galley

Brief 1- Map of me

So exploring ways of almost “wayfinding” my way, to and from the different establishments around the city, that I have had said enjoyable experiences within; I started to look at companies such as City-ID and Applied wayfinding who look at ways to improve the journey throughout the city, and also to grasp some sort of guide to setting out a map

From my findings ‘minus the screenshot’ - City-ID - Interconnect Birmingham,

The goal to creating a successful map are the considerations that goes into one, i.e. the street names, the timing it takes from A to B and ultimately a way to improve ‘your’ experience of interacting with the city. 

What to take from this?

Before I produce the ‘map of me /my experiences’, the next step is to interact with examples of maps’ to understand how simple or complicated they are to follow.
