Post cards have been bounded with a cable ties, I cut it to size and cut back into the shape of a normal sized cable tie and filed it down to ensure the plastic edges weren’t sharp.

Calico prints for final work. The centre piece has been washed in a citric acid bath to intensify the cyan hues of the blue.

Final canvases once dried after distressing and distorting the image using a bleach bath, 3 tablespoons of soda crystals in a shallow bath of cold water. These are now ready to have the calico put over them and have the collection of post cards attached.

I have now produced all calico cyanotype prints and now that they’re fully dry it’s time to iron! I had to ring as much water as I could from them so they were very crumpled.

Applying the cyanotype solution to my 5 pieces of calico. Giving this one a citric acid bath to maintain this cyan colour which will be the central piece of my final works with the hanging collection of postcards.

Cutting calico fabric for the clearer prints to place overtop of my pre existing canvases, the view will be allowed to interact with the work and reveal the distorted canvas underneath.

The sun has come out! Decided to do these outside since the UV index is at 3 and it’s better than being cramped in the bathroom using the UV light.

2 of 5 canvases. Exposed to UV for 15 minutes, last image is before rinsing, will bleach bath all canvases like the first canvas to further distress the canvas after reacting with the gesso.

After washing, the canvas got completely soaked, so hopefully this will add to the end result being distressed, I will update the results once fully dried. I plan to also put bleach solution down the painting for further obscurity.

After exposing before washing, a little overexposed however I think the results will still be interesting, looks like a perfect image but combined with the effects of cyanotype on gesso primed canvas the image will become a lot less visible or ‘distorted’.

Acetate placed on top and then secured with a piece of glass (the flatter the better). Ready to be exposed to UV. I will process this for around 15 minutes.
