I like to imagine his dad is the straight-laced cop he's built up to be. But his mom? His parents met when his dad was trying to HUNT HER DOWN. They ended up falling in love, and he never told Garrus or Sol. He didn't want to them to be influenced by their mother's shady past.

EVEN BETTER: The mom is the Vakarian; the bad seed from a very good family. The dad has no idea that she’s in that family until she’s already pregnant. One of the reasons he’s so hard on Garrus is that he sees the same rebellious ideas in him that he saw in his mom.

and i was working on an addition to my last post with this possibility: garrus’s mom was doing something kind of like what garrus did as archangel somewhere (the citadel or otherwise) and castis was in charge of hunting her down BUT WHEN HE CAUGHT UP TO HER SOMEONE/SOME GROUP WAS TRYING TO KILL HER AND HE SAVED HER. and he ‘let her go’ to go after the one(s) that had tried to kill her. and then idk they met up some more and fell for each other and then your stuff IDK I JUST WANT SHAKARIAN PARALLELS
