There are various species of vultures on the vulture rock, including the rüppelsgier, the maraboe, the paradise birds and hammer heads. Many birds have arrived here in Blijdorp Zoo because they were seized by the police from traders who tried to sell the birds for a lot of money. Especially the rüppelsgier is a beautiful and imposing animal that reaches a width of 2.60 meters with stretched wings.

On Saturday late afternoon Ben Fouche, Rihann Geyser, Theuns Botha and Tiaan Muller recorded 30 Marabou Stork, Maraboe, (Leptoptilos crumeniferus) from roadside at the Kloppersbos DOW dam, this is a rarity for Gauteng.
