if there is one thing one learns when following the marbe machine series all the way to today is that the very first original video of the marble machine is basically a complete lie. the thing required multiple takes, the machine was constantly breaking between one shot and the other and the only reason it looks as good as it does is probably more due to editing than due to any engineering accomplishment by martin himself
