Mother's Day and the Strangery of Vanessa Long at New Birth MBC

I just don’t get it. I started to write about Vanessa titling it “Where in the World is Vanessa Long?” But I decided to wait until today to see if she showed up for Mother’s Day service. Sure enough, she showed up to show her face for service today. Mute as always, she sat in the segregate section of auditorium style seating off to the right of stage. There were others there with her in that section including their daughter Taylor. Neither Taylor nor Vanessa looked especially pleased to be there. Eddie Long’s honorable mention of her boiled down to him trying to make light of her not donning a Mother’s Day traditional hat. She was unable to due to her style of braids. Eddie said he wished he had a camera to film her attempting to make one fit so he could publish it to YouTube. Hardy, har, har Eddie.

Vanessa’s whole presence was strange especially since she insists on sitting away from the people and definitely away from her husband. Then she is surrounded by “protectors” when she does attend. Every now and again I have seen her sit in the front row for a special event at the church where, again, there is an obligatory showing of face. But we will not see Vanessa sitting next to her husband nor see her showing him any affection such as a touch or hug.
With rumors swirling that Vanessa even has her own residence and does not at all live with Eddie Long anymore since the humiliating lawsuit of the five young men against him, it’s a wonder that she feels obligated to attend these church holidays. Mother’s Day is a huge one. It would have been “unseemly” for her not to show. It’s become so commonplace that no one thinks it strange that Vanessa doesn’t mingle with her own husband. And even if she does have her own private residence away from Eddie, no one at New Birth seems to think it odd. Besides, she needs her time away to heal. But heal from what? If her separate residence from her husband is true, then why are they running a church? How can anything that flows from the mouth of Eddie Long be blessed when his immediate family is broken because of him? It’s madness!
Stranger still was the guest speaker’s message today in service. Dr. Wanda Turner gave nothing short of an entertaining message encouraging mothers everywhere with how to do better at home. Her message was entitled “The Battle for the Family”. Interestingly, I am sure the Long Family’s heart rate shot up exponentially not knowing exactly what she was going to say. To their relief (or not), Dr. Turner’s witty message said nothing about what a mother is to do when the father is attracted to and engages with same sex partners.
That New Birth MBC is bizarre. It has become the poster child of Ichabod, and they don’t even know it. Leading the pack is Vanessa and Eddie Long.
