Today day 6 #marchmeettgemaker challenge is about reducing waste. In line of this I crocheted this wonderful neuron using soda tabs 🤩 A great way to recycle soda tabes and save our environment ♻️ I want also to talk about how our brain reduces its waste to stay clean and fresh 🧠. Have you ever heard about the glymphatic system? During the day our brain works hard producing a lot of waste which all accumulate in the interstitial fluid between neurons. At night and specifically during sleep, the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks from the ventricle (a space inside the brain where this fluid is produced and stored) and make it through the arteries to the interstitial space to clean up all the mess and take it away through the veins to the lymphatic system. This process is also accompanied by distributing the nonwaste compounds (glucose, lipids, amino acids, and neurotransmitters) to the brain. During the day astrocytes wrap tightly around the arteries preventing the CSF fluid from doing this process in full but during sleep astrocytes shrink in size allowing the CSF to reach and clean the wastes. Scientists found that CSF activity increase by about 60% during sleep compared to day time especially if we slept on the lateral position. https://www.instagram.com/p/B9ZrMjWFwTY/?igshid=1g8s3abcjai7g
