Tumblr, WordPress’in sahibi Automattic’e satıldı

Son dönemde izlediği "arınma" politikası nedeniyle ciddi anlamda düşüş yaşayan ve kullanıcı kaybeden Tumblr, değerinin oldukça altında bir fiyata WordPress’in sahibi Automattic’e satıldı.

The Wall Street Journal'ın haberine göre 2013 yılında 1.1 milyar dolar karşılığında Yahoo tarafından satın alınan ve daha sonra Verizon çatısı altına giren Tumblr tekrar el değiştirdi. Zira platformun yeni sahibi -20 milyon dolar değerlenmeyle- 3 milyon dolara WordPress’in sahibi Automattic oldu. 

2007 yılında David Karp ve Marco Arment tarafından kurulan platform, zaman içerisinde deyim yerindeyse müstehcen ve çıplaklık barındıran paylaşımların merkezi haline geldi. Özellikle genç kuşağın yoğun ilgi gösterdiği Tumblr, şu sıralar 450 milyondan fazla blog ve 160 milyardan fazla paylaşıma ev sahipliği yapıyor. Kitlenin büyük çoğunluğunu ise tahmin edebileceğiniz gibi +18 paylaşımlar oluşturuyor.

17 Aralık 2018′de radikal bir karar alan Verizon, Tumblr’daki tüm pornografik içerikleri (fotoğraf, video, GIF ve üye hesapları) kalıcı olarak engelleyeceğini, siteyi daha “uygun” hale getireceğini duyurdu. Fakat bu hamle beklenen etkiyi yaratmayarak site trafiğinin çok ciddi derece düşmesine sebebiyet verdi. Grafikler incelendiğinde sert rüzgarlara maruz kaldığı görülen platform her geçen gün kan kaybetmeye devam ediyor. Kulislerde dolaşan bilgilere göre Auttomatic’in müstehcen paylaşımları engellemeye devam edeceği fakat platformun gelecek rotasının ise netlik kazanmadığı belirtiliyor. 1.1 milyar dolar seviyesindeki Tumblr’ın yaşadığı fırtınalı günler sonrası sadece 3 milyon dolara satılması ise şaşkınlıkla karşılandı.
