I'm thinking of a fic where Marco is a doctor who has his own medical practice in a world where supernatural things exist. Think Vampires, Werewolves, that kind of lame crap and he develops a love-hate relationship for his new assistant Trafalgar Law.
For context, Marco got kicked out of the famous Grand Line hospital because he injected himself with a mythical Phoenix serum for its healing powers to cure Whitebeard of cancer. Too late, though. Whitebeard died anyway and his license is revoked.
Marco sets up his own clinic where he does supernatural research to make very specific medicines. It's popular among criminals but Marco doesn't mind the clientele. Money is money.
One day, Marco hired a young man named Law to help him balance his clinician and research work. Initially, Marco didn't want to hire him because he thinks Law's hiding something. Then, Law showed proof that he knew of Marco's past.
Marco had no choice. His suspicions of Law remained, though.
Law came to work covered in blood every day. There's an uptick of supernatural crimes lately. It didn't take Marco long to realise like yes, Law's behind this but why? What did he do?
Law keeps asking him to keep his appearance a secret, and to give him flexible working hours. In exchange, Law will protect the clinic after-hours and see patients.
Marco accepts these conditions. There's a pattern. He agrees when Law asks for medicine. He lets Law read his research notes. He buys Law coffee. Law has the upper hand and Marco fucking hates it.
Power trip aside, Law is of excellent help. He's conscientious, polite and very intelligent. He handles numbers well. He always picks up and doesn't complain about the pay.
For a moment, Marco wants to legitimately hire him but he knows that he can't keep a brilliant mind in this sort of place. Law deserved the success that Marco was robbed of.
The supernatural occurrences keep happening, but that meant more patients. Law asked to extend his contract, whether because he genuinely liked it here or because he needed the cover, Marco did not know but he agreed.
They got along well and have this quiet air of mutual respect between them. Marco's fondness for Law is reciprocated. Law admires Marco's (shitty) work ethic and stays behind to keep him company and learn from his experience. Law just likes Marco as a person.
So, with all my rambling, I guess I have some questions about this fic to develop it.
Is Law a supernatural creature? He's obviously interested in Marco's research in the supernatural, but why? Is it to find a cure for his own supernatural status? Does he himself want to be a researcher in the field (if that is the case, Marco's very open to teaching/mentoring him so it's foolish to keep hiding).
I need a boiling point for this fic. Otherwise, their relationship will stagnate and be overall friendly, blackmailing aside. Because he's a little shit, what did Law do/say to piss Marco off? Yes, Marco's paranoid, but Marco went through a lot so not much legitimately makes him angry.
On that, is Law legitimately a criminal or was it just a red herring on Marco's end? Yes, Law is suspicious but this is a supernatural world, for fuck's sake. What points all his weird actions to murder specifically? Besides, Law's just a strange person even in daily life.
And this is a personal silly question but how did Law even know about Marco to begin with? Marco's in butt-fuck nowhere. If Marco missed his family (think Thatch, Izou, Ace, etc), he'd drive to the city or take a flight. He would never ask them to drop by. Besides, he had no marketing and kept everything private.
For the fourth point, I want Law to be connected to the Phoenix serum, like maybe Doflamingo funded it or his biological parents were the first test subjects, just something vaguely relevant!
This could be an interesting fic!! I'm putting this out there in case anyone else is also interested. Yipee
Light from a high window dappled the table, but Law remained mostly an outline to Marco. A moon-curve of skin, blunt gold earrings, a hand lifting the cup, making a point, as he leaned forward or back. His inked fingers braided the light.

i'm sorry but does that mean marcolaw?? because i've never considered it but now that i am...i am Looking Respectfully...
Well that's how I think about it bc they cant be alive that long and not feel Something strongly (tho romantic idk). But no insofar as the person who inspired the fic asked me not to make it shippy (tho bromance is ok). But yes in the way that when I showed my friend a very very early snippet, she thought they totally banged.
===/\===
Law's eyes narrow, and he takes Marco's face in both hands, glaring as he turned Marco's face this way and that, away from the light. Whatever it was he was looking for, he found it.
"You've aged," noted Law. It's an accusation, full of hurt and anger, Law's voice coming out clipped. The hands on Marco's face tremble slightly. "How? What happened?"
"It's normal," Marco tried to assure him, a hand on Law's shoulder.
"How is this normal?" snarled Law quietly, the hands on Marco's face pulling slightly. There was a manic light in Law's eyes, a hard white glint across his golden irises. He looks half-feral, like a large cat with its ears back and fangs bared. "I thought you were like me, how is—"
"Law," said Marco, squeezing Law's shoulder to try and ground him back to reality and focus on what Marco was saying. "I die when I'm seventy-seven."
For the dialogue and pairing prompt: “Where the fuck did that clown come from?” Marco and Law 😊
yes i love rarepairs ty for the ask.
580w full fic under cut
Marco calls out that he’s home when he walks through the door and doesn’t receive a response. He isn’t expecting one, and follows the lamplight to where he thinks Law will be. Marco figures he’ll find Law bent over his desk, in the middle of some new project.
Instead he finds Law curled up in his armchair, book in hand. Sitting next to him, in Marco’s own seat, is a giant, hideous clown plush. It’s pained face taunts him. Law hasn’t looked up or acknowledged Marco’s entrance at all.
Marco will admit to some confusion. He leans against the wooden doorway, soaking in the unusual sight. “Where the fuck did that clown come from?”
Law, glasses perched on the edge of his nose, pretends nothing is amiss. “His name is Teddy.” Law licks his thumb tip and flips the next page.
“What?”
Law peers up at Marco from beneath his glasses and turns back to the book in his hands. “I said his name is Teddy.”
“Why is Teddy in my spot?” The clown looks to be sitting in a nest made of one of Marco’s sashes. Marco walks closer to inspect it, crouching down to look it in the eye.
Marco entertains the idea that Law has finally cracked. The tumultuous life he’s led, the things he’s seen, and done, and had done to him, has finally caught up to him. This is how it’s presenting itself, in the form of a clown named Teddy.
“He kept me company while you were away,” Law says.
It’s equally possible that this is Law’s idea of a joke.
Marco known Law long enough to know Law rarely directly says what he’s feeling. Marco has also learned how to pry things out of him. "You missed me.”
A page turns. “I did.”
Marco doesn’t feel guilty for leaving. He never asks Law to stay, but he is pleased Law is still here. Marco was gone for a few days, a week at most. Crew business. Seeing his Family, tending to Pop’s legacy. It’s important to him, so it’s important to Law.
The longer they’ve been together the more Marco realises home is less of a place and more of a concept. People. Home for them is love and loyalties and commitments, to their crews, and to one another.
“You didn’t have to stay here, you know. Not by yourself,” Marco says. He doesn't begrudge that they will take turns and Law will be the one leaving Marco home alone but… Marco’s never felt the need to buy a freaky plush to fill the void.
“I wasn’t by myself. I had Teddy.” The little quirk in the corner of Law’s mouth tells Marco this is just his sense of humour. The book is set aside, glasses placed on top. Law’s attention is completely focused on Marco now.
Marco has learned that Law is much like a cat. Upset when Marco leaves and aloof when he returns, but happy to be sharing space all the same.
“Why a clown?” Surely a bird would have been more fitting. Marco reaches out to run his fingers over the soft fabric of the colourful plush.
“You have the same eyebrows,” Law says, grinning now as he draws Marco’s hand away from the plush sitting in his seat and links their fingers loosely together.
“I don’t see the resemblance,” Marco says shortly. He isn’t pouting but he isn’t pleased to be compared to this thing, either.

Now that Wano’s over, I thought I’d share this soft Marco/Law fic again. I can’t find the original post on my blog. It’s canon divergent, naturally enough, but set in canon verse.
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: One Piece
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Word count: 2,701
Summary:
As the dragon transports the island across the heavens, Law and Marco meet in the basement of Kaidou's palace.
(Wanted to give Law something a little soft after episode 951 bloodied him up, and I haven't written MarLaw for a while)
I haven’t written MarLaw / LawMar, Marco and Law for a while. I know it’s a rare pair, but some folks like it. Anyone want to drop me maybe a word or two, a setting (like? dunno, a bar, outside, home, etc.) in an ask and I’ll see if i can write a few drabbles or so for the prompts.
Can be platonic or romantic, just let me know. Keep it SFW. It might go to NSFW, but that’d be a result of whatever. Concrete nouns work better than abstract—so like objects or things. “Rain, fish, bottle” etc.
I don’t really do weddings, but I do like established and committed relationships.
Anyhoo, I’ll see how it goes, and will just delete if it’s still the rarest of the rare 😊

@afterdeck-ace ‘s lovely tags above refer to this line:
He operated by stealth, not deceit. Affection stitched for those who knew where to find it, with a needle that could pierce an eyeball as easily as mend a heart.
which I added onto this prompt by @cal-cium-the-nerd for @opcreativefest (just so you guys know your efforts are active).
It’s not a prompt fill as it’s an existing work, and doesn’t really address the initial prompt. But I do love me a Law and crew who are good at needlework, and I posted a one-shot kinda related to that on tumblr here also (with more of a focus on the Hearts).
It’s from the fic linked above, and maybe others will enjoy this. It’s Marco/Law with background Smo/Law and Marco/Ace, with side servings of ZoLu (just briefly) and Smoker/Tashigi. Platonic LawLu and background non-platonic LawLu. It’s rated M for mild gore in the second chapter. No Hearts or Jean Bart at all.
It might not be that easy to read standalone (as it’s kind of part of a larger story), but some people have enjoyed it that way.
Law had too many exes, but it wasn't like Marco was a blushing virgin when they'd got together. Then again, Law's exes were still in his life, and damn but they cared for him.
Rated M for mature themes from chapter 2 onwards. No actual smut though.
