For the WIP GAME, I'm curious about wup number 2! (Alastor character study)

I actually have the least written down for this one — it's mostly in notes form. Basically I after I watched Hazbin Hotel I got interested in learning more about the lore of the world, since there's a lot the creator has divulged about it that wasn't on the show. Alastor is anyway the most interesting character for me, and since he was the most mysterious as well I ended up reading a lot about him. So there was some information about him when he was alive, growing up half black in 1920's Jazz Age America, how he was a momma's boy, a serial killer AND the fact that he's ace (and probably aro as well) amidst all that. So I wanted to write a character study to kinda explore how all those pieces fit together!

Essentially in the show (and some of the comics too) we see that he's kinda got a soft spot for women and — on many occasions — people who are powerless, and I was curious about that duality with him otherwise being a crazy, serial killing demon. So I wanted to go into his honour code, WHY he does what he does, his friendships, his relationship with his mother and his aspec identity in particular.

9) Do you always have romantic ships for fandoms?

Definitely not! I mean, I feel like the definition of 'shipping' tends to imply a romantic connection? Or at least most people USE it that way? But I have a lot of pairings that I see as both romantic and queerplatonic depending on my mood, and some where I genuinely ONLY see it as queerplatonic and ship it as such.

And there are also many character dynamics that I enjoy immensely that are definitely not romantic or romantic-adjacent at all. But I am confused about what this question defines as shipping. Like I really like familial dynamics in media a lot but I would never phrase it as me 'shipping' them because that seems to have a different implication.

11) Opinion on platonic ships?

Love them. Found family is one of my favourite tropes in media, and close friendships in media are extremely important to me. And many of my favourite non-canon pairings are canonically very queerplatonic.

1. What is your favorite trope to write?

ooooooh. hm. i love enemies to friends, i love platonic cuddling (is that a trope? idk! i'm making it one!), i love characters hiding an injury until they inevitably pass out in front of their friends about it, i love slightly awkward family dinners!

11. Do you prefer writing angst, crack, or fluff?

LMAO. if anyone has spent two seconds on my ao3 page i think we can all agree that i am a horrifying frankenstein who mashes all three of these things together into odd strange creatures. so.......... all? of them? am i allowed to say that? saying it anyway!

2. What is your least favorite trope to write?

Cheating. Whenever I’m writing about a non-canon pairing—that would be, most of the time—I prefer breaking up the canon pairing(s) or even glossing over them altogether. I do enjoy toxic relationships in fiction, but only when it brings interesting conflicts to the story and not for the sake of shipping drama.

5. The fic you’re most proud of writing?

As for now it must be All the Old Places. I’m still on chapter 6 (of… I don’t even know anymore), but I’ve already written most of it already and outlined the rest, and I’m very proud of it for all the work I did, and because it’s the first long thing I’ve ever written that actually feels good to me. (I do have some old long-ish fics, but they’re quite terrible to say the least.) 

7. Favorite ship to write? 

I’m very much enjoying writing Gen fics lately, but ofc I love shipping as much as the next person. It heavily depends on the spirit of the moment, but I think I can safely say Shinichi and Shiho because of how long I’ve been a fan of them, and writing about them feels like going back to my roots. At the moment, however, I’m having lots of fun with Cassunzel, so honorable mention to them. 

8. Least favorite ship to write? 

How much am I exposing myself here if I say Ran and Shinichi? I just can’t get a knack for them, Idk.

10. Best/funniest comment you’ve ever gotten on a fic? 

‘Not enough gay sex for me.’ I guess some people might find it rude, but I straight up snorted lol. 

12. First fic ever written? 

I don’t remember if it was my first ever because I’ve been writing fanfiction since before I knew what it was, but the first I ever posted was a Pokémon/Naruto crossover lmao. Zero plot, just self-insert OCs and vibes.  

13. Latest fic written/latest WIP?

An Adult Adrienette OS which is a half-rewrite of Duetto spaccato—that it because that’s one of my favorite MLB ideas, but I’m not quite happy with how that fic turned out, especially the last chapter, and because I’ve matured a lot as a writer, I want to give it another try.

9! Per una coincidenza sono 9 anche su EFP, anche se alcuni sono diversi.

3. What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)?

If History is Dead and Buried (lo so che non ti interessa delle Winx ma fa’ finta di sì), ho fatto un lavoro di editing pazzesco e secondo me il risultato non è affatto male, sono molto contenta di come è venuta <3

5. What work of yours got more feedback than you expected?

fire meet gasoline (la Lukhloé) sicuramente, l’ho scritta completamente di getto (anche in questo caso, una buona parte del lavoro di rifinitura l’ho fatto in fase di editing, che nel mio caso in inglese è anche più importante perché ho meno padronanza della lingua e devo stare più attenta a stile, ritmo, sintassi, lessico, eccetera eccetera) e non mi aspettavo assolutamente che riscontrasse così tanto interesse. Immagino sia perché si tratta di un fandom molto grande, quindi per quanto sia una rarepair, un pubblico c’è, anzi proprio perché è una rarepair è meno probabile che si perda nel mucchio. 

18. The character that gave you the most trouble writing this year?

Io qui a ribadire che lo so che non te ne frega delle Winx, ma se si parla di storie pubblicate, sicuramente Griffin – c’è un capitolo con lei che ho scritto tre volte, e devo dire che è servito perché la versione definitiva mi piace tantissimo, ma comunque che fatica – però voglio fare la trasgressiva, andare al di là delle storie pubblicate e darti una risposta che so ti piacerà tantissmo: Matt. Io voglio dannatamente scrivere qualcosa su di lui (sì, è sempre quella Matt/Claire, ma non solo) perché è un personaggio meraviglioso, ma forse proprio per questo non sono (ancora) in grado di coglierlo a pieno. Non penso che le storie che ho scritto e pubblicato finora con lui protagonista con lui siano brutte, ma è tipo quel meme dell’iceberg, ho solo toccato la superficie. Sia con lui che con questo fandom ho paura di scrivere qualcosa che sia più lungo di 1000 parole perché mi sembra di non conoscerli mai troppo bene. Insomma, tante parole per dirti che prima o poi tornerò ad ammorbarti in chat con un rewatch di DD perché mi serve proprio.

20. Which work of yours have you reread the most?

If History is Dead and Buried, nello specifico il terzo capitolo sopracitato perché è proprio la cosa più self-indulgent di sempre

I write so little fluff I had to go way back to an old WIP of mine—hope it’s fluffy enough <3

It’s not edited, so pretend you don’t see any mistakes or typos. And also, do forgive its lenght, I just wanted to share it all.

Ladybug looked up at him in that way of hers that was always enough to make his head spin and his knees buckle. Chat Noir swallowed, waiting for her to continue. Her lips trembled imperceptibly, lingering for a moment. “It’s just—you don’t have to call me Ladybug. I don’t mind nicknames.” She spoke softly, her cheeks flushed, but his common sense suggested he should not cling to the hope that this meant what his heart still yearned for.  He hesitated, then grinned at her. “So you do miss my attention after all,” he said cockily. He looked up at the sky and scratched his chin with a clawed finger, feigning to be deep in thought. “What do I get in return for your request?” She rolled her eyes at him, but a smile danced on her lips as she said, “Forget it, pretend I didn’t ask. You’re unbelievable, you know that? You always assume—” “I would never assume, my lady!” He meant to play with her a little longer, but his next words died in his throat at the sight of her lips slightly parted, eyes wide. It was a nickname meant for her and her only, one that, if addressed to anyone else, would only feel wrong and unnatural. It was a gesture more than anything else, a way to prove to himself that he’d gotten over her. He wouldn’t even dream of deluding himself into thinking it would mean something special for Ladybug as well. His lips were suddenly dry. Swallowing, Chat Noir settled for a smirk. “You asked.” What happened next was as close to a dream as it could get. She got up and, propping on the tip of her toes, she blew him a kiss on the cheek. It was soft, gentle. Her lips brushed against his bare skin and his whole body shivered. “You’re such a gentleman, aren’t you?” she said in a giggle, and it wasn’t meant to be more than a friendly tease, but he felt her voice riverberate all the way through his bones, and for a moment he could swore he could catch fire. Ladybug swiftly turned and jumped off the building, disappearing into the night. Chat Noir followed her as though he feared he might never see her again. He knew it. He always had, and everything he did to prove himself the opposite was a pathetic, weak attempt at deceiving himself. He was madly, hoplessly in love with whoever was behind that mask, and he had no idea how to forget her.

Context: It’s a Ladynoir-centric fic post season 3. The wait for season 4 was painfully long and at some point I started writing my own take of how some things could go after Marinette becomes Guardian, but I eventually lost interest and never finished it. I’ve recently started working on it again as a canon-divergent thing where I ignore everything that happened in season 4 and 5.

Marinette snapped a glance over her shoulder. Marc had just started bringing drinks to the table and was now grinning at something Zoé was saying. Everyone, minus Chloé, seemed to be enjoying herself. Alya would take a peek at her and Adrien from time to time, but whatever thought might be crossing her mind, it was wrong. Her eyes went back on Adrien. She regarded Adrien for a moment, still having trouble matching his face with the boy who’d been her fighting crime partner in for the last three and a half years.  “Did you tell them”—she made sure not to look back at the table should they suspect they were talking about them—”about what happened that night?” “No,” Adrien said. “I was vague enough, but I think it’s only a matter of time before they start figuring out we’ve lied about Hawk Moth.” He bit back at his lip. “That’s if they haven’t already.”

I’ve been referring to this as the Miraculous Team!AU, which may as well be the most canon-divergent thing I’ve ever written considering it’s a whole different take on the characters. Adrien and Marinette still get their miraculouses, but they never meet in middle-school and as a result, Marinette/Ladybug developes a crush for Chat Noir. She also doesn’t meet Nino, Alya, Luka and Chloé up until high-school. And for once, there’s some actual plot!

(And yes, Zoé’s here. I don’t really feel anything for her character, but I think her relationship with Chloé could be very interesting if she weren’t just some character created to write Chloé off the show and so far I’m pretty satisfied with what I’ve come up so far. To me, it’s less a matter of “Zoé is an angel, Chloé is nasty,” and more something on the line of, “they’re both kids who ended up with a shitty mother and used different ways to cope.”)
