When you met Maria, she was a widow with a son... So where's the kid now? Gabriel. Alive and well, apparently, living in Paris. Severe allergic reaction to bee stings listed in his medical file. Which was supposed to kill him until Flynn changed it. I don't get it. All you and I wanna do is go back and save the people that we love and Flynn, he just does it, without hesitation. So why aren't we doing the same thing?
Family Flynn and Maria, "I truly do... you know that, right?"
It’s been far too long since he’s seen his mother, and he can’t quite stop the nerves twisting up his stomach as she steps through his doorway. She loves Lorena, of course-how could anyone not?-but a child is something new altogether; he does not to bring up painful memories for her. Now that he has Iris, he cannot imagine losing her as his mother lost Gabriel.
His fears, of course, are unfounded; she wraps her arms around him, gracing him with a rare smile as she says, “I’m so happy for you. I cannot tell you how much I want you to be happy.” He swallows, and she must feel his hesitation, because she sighs. “I truly do... You know that, right?”
He thinks of Iris, of how much he wants her to be happy even on his worst days, and nods.

Personally I like to think that he never believed the lie that Flynn killed Lorena and Iris, and is trying to find his little bro to prove his innocence.
One of The Key Moments I Fell In Love with Garcia Flynn
1x08. Space Race.
Garcia Flynn goes to Lockman, seems to take a keen interest in one Maria Thompkins.
Is she bad? Is she Rittenhouse?
He 'accidently' runs into her at the park. She's got a little boy!! He makes small talk with Maria then meets her little boy. His name is Gabriel.
He says he needs to ask a very important question...WHAT ARE YOU DOING FLYNN!?!
Do you like ice cream?
Whew. Okay. Takes the kid to get some ice cream. Has a soft spot for kids...? Makes sense, he had a daughter.
He has a heart to heart with Maria. She gives him advice.
Fast forward and he's leaning over the little boy. WHAT DID YOU DO!? Maria is freaking out, just being told that Flynn was dangerous.
Bee sting. The little boy was gonna die. Flynn saved Gabriel's life. Flynn explained this.
Come to find out Maria Thompkins was his mother. Gabriel Thompkins was...is...his big brother.

You could hear my heart shattered. But the pieces are being ground to bits with this:
This version of Flynn, his reality, his mom was always sad. That's all he'll remember. And he never knew his brother.
He didn't do it for himself. He did it for her.
Imagine the mind bend it would be for Maria Thompkins-Flynn as she watches Garcia grow up to look exactly like the man who saved her son Gabriel. To remember the exact words that man said to her because at the time it was just odd; only years later to realise it was Garcia. Knowing it’s completely insane but at the same time believing it to be true.
I also like the idea that Asher liked to have his lunch on a park bench everyday when the weather was good. One day, Gabriel kicked a soccer ball his way by accident. Maria rushed over all apologetic as the soccer ball got mud on the leg of his expensive suit. Asher didn’t care about a bit of dirt but took the opening to talk to her as he’d seen her around the park with Gabriel. She finds him attractive as he kind of reminds her of the crazy stranger who saved Gabriel’s life. She loves how he offers to show Gabriel how to do a couple soccer tricks and genuine interest in engaging conversation with her son. She enjoys his awkward but delicious flirting with her and lack of wedding ring as he’s got such a happy go lucky spirit and a kind smile. The patience of a saint with her son. When he asks how interested they would be in having an ice cream with him. The answer is a definitive YES!
And I’m now once again made cranky with the writers and their completely illogical timeline again (Lucy captive for six weeks and Flynn in solitary for six months? HAHAHAH NOPE) in 1x15.
If Maria Parker, later Thompkins, even later Flynn, was a 17-y-o junior in 1962, and she had a 6 1/2 old son in July 1969 for the moon landing, Gabriel was born in January of 1963 at the latest. Which means Maria, married or not, gave birth during her senior year of high school. Which, in the ‘60′s, would have been a Big Freakin’ Deal. I’ll readily buy that she got married to James Thompkins right out of high school, but for her to not cause Epic Scandal and neighbors counting months on their fingers, she didn’t graduate in May or June of 1962 either and have a son less than nine months later.
So, in conclusion, she has to be at least two years older than they’re claiming. Though the idea that she was likely married at 18, a mother by 20, and then a widow by likely age 25 is sobering in its own way. :(
