1. what is your guilty pleasure?
Television. It's brain candy, I know. But binge-watching episodes of fictional characters, I just can't seem to control myself. I've literally had to take my tv off the wall during the summer to make sure I didn't waste the season.
2. if you could have a PhD in anything (already, without doing all the hard work), what would it be?
Currently, I'd probably say nutrition. My father, my mother-in-law and my best friend are all currently killing themselves with their sugar addictions. They're diabetic and completely unable to give up the rice, bread & boxed cookies that are going to send them to an early grave. But they all treat me like I'm a crazy hippie for feeding my family two large grocery bags worth of vegetables each week. I wish I could help them, but I think it'd take an actual PhD for them to take me seriously.
3. what is your dream retirement location?
Someplace near at least one of my kids, that is warm & has a low cost of living.
I've been ruminating on this for quite awhile. I wish that I could say it was some wonderful piece of literature. But honestly, it's How to Talk so Kids Will Listen and Listen so Kids Will Talk. It gave me invaluable tools for communicating with my children, and I can't think of any book that has had so REAL an effect on me as that.
5. approximate number of concerts/live band shows you’ve attended?
Hundreds. I spent a decade of my life going to shows, sometimes 3 per week. I loved every one of them, from the multiple day music fests to the little local punk bands playing in the back of a bowling alley.
6. do you get scared if you’re home alone at night? if so, what do you fear?
More than I should for my age. Mostly, I'm scared of home intruders. I don't really feel capable of protecting my kids from marauders in the middle of the night.
Showers. I love baths but I never seem to have time for them.
8. what helps you when you’re in a crappy mood?
Housework. Using my body to put things in order. I used to suffer from panic attacks, I found the most useful thing to stop them was to start organizing something, anything. These days, cleaning up still helps when I'm in a crappy mood. Last month, when I was pissed at my husband and he was in bed, I took down our Christmas tree and put all the ornaments in storage. The combination of using my body, creating order and being able to visually assess the results really centers me.
9. favorite item to shop for?
Food. I mostly hate shopping. I hate stores, I hate crowds, I hate spending money, I hate making room for stuff in my little house. But I freaking love the farmers market.
10. what does the word “mother” make you think of?
I'm not going to tag ten people, because I follow only 30 blogs. If I follow you, I'd be tickled pink if you answer questions, especially since I've sent every one of you anons that has asked for them, lol.
If I don't already follow you, answer the questions, and I'll feel like I know you and follow back! (Yes, I'm a weirdo, and tend to watch blogs for a little while before I commit them to my dash). Just let me know if you answered them. :)
