My attempt at solving the Donkey Kong lore involves the following options:

#1: Bananza has you play as a grown-up DK Junior.

#2: The Mario vs. Donkey Kong sub-series takes place between Bananza and Odyssey. The DK featured is Donkey Kong the 4th.

#3: The events of Bananza are based on reports from the Kongs. Either the game is a retelling in the style of SMB3, or the Kongs are unreliable narrators... or it's a mixture of both.

#4: Every game is in a slightly-different timeline, so nothing matches up perfectly.

It's been a couple of months since Bananza came out. Where do you think the game fits in the Mario timeline?

I like to think the Mario Timeline can be whatever anyone wants it to be

For example, when I write the Mario Timeline…

(Below is a bunch of headcanon, you have been warned)

I like to think Yoshi series came first and we’re playing as Yoshi’s father and DK Country comes afterwards

I like to think when Pauline said she got captured by a big ape in Odyssey, she was referring to Mario vs Donkey Kong and not the original Donkey Kong

I like to think Pauline in Bananza is actually past Pauline and the Pauline we see now is current Pauline :3

I also have another bizarre headcanon that Captain Toad actually met and knew Toadette before Mario Galaxy and that Treasure Tracker perhaps took place before Galaxy? I dunno! It makes sense to me since Toadette was half of a damsel in that game and then she never was again

Anyways, don’t take this seriously, just me trying to organize a timeline for my own headcanon’d au and whatnot! DO NOT TAKE AS CANON!!!

Can you update Super Mario Timeline with the new games?

Hi, in the Mario Timeline, it claims that Sticker Star takes place after Paper Jam, but Tower Power Pokey has its royal Sticker, which shouldn't be the case because the Sticker Comet only becomes broken at the beginning of Sticker Star.

In Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam Tower Power Pokey does not have a Royal Sticker, only a crown that strongly resembles one. There is no shine on the crown and it has a spike at the top. In fact, as we can see from the additional spines, this is likely not even the same Pokey.

I currently believe there’s more reason to place Paper Mario: Sticker Star after Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam than before it.

Where would you place Mario & Luigi: Brothership in the Mario Timeline?

Also Second Question: Is the Original Diddy Kong Racing 64 Mario Canon?

I must finish the game before I can accurately place it but early signs, even visible in promotional material, indicate to me that it takes place after Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam, Super Mario Odyssey and Princess Peach: Showtime! at the very least.

Given Diddy Kong Racing was replaced by Diddy Kong Racing DS in terms of chronology, technically it wouldn’t be anymore - though it is still, in essence, canon.

How many years do you personally imagine the Mario timeline taking place across? I recall you mentioned that Peach has celebrated four birthdays across the entire series - Do you think that means only four years have passed since Super Mario Bros., or is there reason to believe it's been more?
