Mark Clattenberg Found Innocent

As I have written about previously, in Octorber Chelsea Football Club accused referee Mark Clattenberg of racially abusing their players during a home loss against Manchester United. This was two counts, one of which was dropped and one which was has nw been found by the FA as false. Clattenberg was then cleared and reinstated to referee Premier League games.

  There are multiple factors that need to be looked at in reference to this. Firstly, should Clattenberg go after some kind of retribution? At the time of writing Chelsea have yet to apologise for their false accusation. Now, bearing in mind that the club properly went after Mark Clattenberg, you would think this could be the least they could do.

  They not only went after Mark Clattenberg on a professional level, accusing him of not being capable of doing his job, they went after him as a human being. They accused him of something that is seen as fundamentally wrong and corrupt in society – a racist. In my opinion, Chelsea should not be able to get away with this.

  Already, John Obi Mikel has been charged by the FA for his role as the accuser in the whole saga. Yet, it must not be forgotten that Chelsea executives Ron Gourlay and Bruce Buck were the ones to lead the accusations. Yet, they will probably get off completely free.

  They attacked Mark Clattenberg with a completely false accusation and they made his life extremely difficult. This is something that hopefully the FA can address in some shape or form. However, with the complex and twisted power structures that are present in football in the Premier League means this is highly unlikely; and probably not even possible.

Mark Clattenberg Will not be Guilty

In recent weeks we saw Chelsea accuse referee Mark Clattenberg of racist remarks made against their players during the game against Manchester United on the 28th of October. There are a number of argument as to why this is a false accusation by Chelsea that will in no way lead to Clattenberg being charged.

It is said that the accusations that Clattenberg was racist towards John Obi Mikel are based on a translations by Ramires, a Brazilian. Hardly, what could be called a top level of translator to the English language. The accusations of what he said to Juan Mata are less concrete but based on the idea that he addressed the Spaniard in a way that used his nationality as derogatory.

These ideas are probably most profoundly put by Sir Alex Ferguson. Who says in all his years of managing football clubs he has never heard a referee address a player in a derogatory fashion. No insults or abuse to the players, despite all the abuse that they get from players and the fans. These are people who have to keep above the line in terms of respectable language, which players stoop below in every Premier League game in the abuse they give to referees.

Another reason that points to Clattenberg not being guilty is the lack of reaction and confrontation from the players at the time of the supposed incident. In the game itself we see no real reaction out of the Chelsea players. It almost seems as if it was something that Chelsea angrily cooked up in the heat of the moment after they felt hard done by in a game where some decisions did not go their way.

In this I just cannot see the referee being found guilty. Especially when Mark Clattenberg has been so open about being investigated into and clearly feels he has nothing to hide. This can only end badly for Chelsea. They seem to be developing an attitude where they feel like victims. However, this Clattenberg affair will only in a negative light being shined Chelsea Football Club – again.
