Guillermo del Toro's "Frankenstein" Adds to Cast

Jacob Elordi, Christoph Waltz, Felix Kammerer, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley, and Christian Convery have joined Oscar Isaac and Mia Goth in Guillermo del Toro's adaptation of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein.

Frankenstein tells of a scientist whose experiments bring a creature to life.

Resurrection Man: Quantum Karma

Mark Shelley: the Resurrection Man! Every time he dies, he is reborn with a new power. But this time, after a long life his death came at the hands of time itself, and he finds himself outside of it, meeting another version of himself from the far future, and a warning: Gashadokuro is coming to destroy them all. Something Mark has known since WWII.

The description for this book is quite cheesy, and doesn't quite portray the melancholy, slightly depressing outlook this book has. Every character who lives long enough deals with existentialism, and this results in many people having different outlooks, with varying degrees of nihilism. But as the name implies it's also a book that deals with Samsara and the endless cycle of things, as can be viewed from the cover of the first issue.

I don't know if I like it. I get the sense it's tapping into a lot of specific things that I think I'm ignorant of. I'm not familiar of the painting it's gesturing to, so all I can see is the placating, grasping pose. The ending, in particular, is quite depressing and I don't think I liked it.

I do think Ram V was intentional in the story he set out to tell, and Butch Guice was intentional about he art he drew. Nothing is introduced without being paid off later, and every little thing (an important phrase in the book) is important to the ultimate picture the finale paints. I get the sense people with more knowledge than me will point and go "Oh that's very neat!" and I'm just in the dark. If it's not the case, let me know; I'd love to hear it.

Mark Shelley named principal of Riverside Elementary School in Princeton
