Susan Monarez, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, is refusing an attempt from the Trump administration to push her out of her job. Monarez opposes unscientific policies being pushed by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who has a long history of promoting harmful junk science. The Trump administration claimed on Wednesday that Monarez had been fired after she refused to resign. But her lawyer Mark Zaid said in a post that because she serves in a Senate-confirmed position, she can be removed only by President Donald Trump himself.
In an earlier post, Zaid and his legal partner, Abbe Lowell, said Monarez has been targeted by the Trump administration after refusing to “rubber-stamp unscientific, reckless directives and fire dedicated health experts.” The post also accused Kennedy and the department of “weaponizing public health for political gain and putting millions of American lives at risk.” The refusal to bow to a purported firing echoes the stance of Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook, who on Monday refused Trump’s attempt to remove her, noting that he does not have the constitutional power to do so. Cook is now suing the administration.
Dr. Robert Steinbrook, health research group director at the advocacy group Public Citizen, told CNN, “Ousting the first Senate-confirmed CDC director weeks into the start of her tenure makes absolutely no sense and underscores the destructive chaos at RFK Jr.’s Department of Health and Human Services.” Following the administration’s statement on Monarez, at least three top CDC officials said they were quitting the agency. They include Dr. Debra Houry, the CDC’s chief medical officer, as well as Drs. Dan Jernigan and Demetre Daskalakis, both directors of agencies at the CDC.

Accessible and affordable healthcare, education and housing? Strong action on climate change? Ending the Israeli genocide? Ending ICE and its abuses?
That's going way too far.
America is absolutely thriving right now. Remember, the permissible range of opinion and policymaking is centrist to far-right.
Think about it. If we had affordable healthcare, what would that entail? We'd have affordable healthcare. See how unrealistic that is? We'd be like other countries with affordable healthcare, but we're the US. So, we can't let that happen. The extremism of other countries can't be our model.
If that argument doesn't convince you, there's the slippery slope argument. If we had affordable healthcare we might create demand for affordable education. But if we had affordable education, we'd have affordable education. But we can't afford to make things affordable. What works for people can't work. What doesn't work for people is the only thing we can make work. If we fool ourselves into thinking that something can work, then none of it can.
All of these proposals for affordability are dangerous extremism. Affordability is destructive. We need moderation. Moderation is always the best in every possible world. Moderation is not extremism and is therefore good because moderation is good, and the good is the moderate.
Take genocide. How can we end genocide when genocide is not supposed to end? When something's not supposed to end you can't end it.

On Thursday evening, Donald Trump pushed out on Twitter the name of the alleged whistleblower whose complaint led to the president’s impeachment.
Trump’s personal Twitter account, @realDonaldTrump, retweeted a post by the re-election campaign’s official “war room” account that was aimed at the whistleblower’s attorney Mark Zaid. “It's pretty simple. The CIA ‘whistleblower’ is not a real whistleblower!” reads the tweet, which links to a Washington Examiner item. That piece, published Dec. 3, includes the alleged whistleblower’s name in the headline. The Daily Beast is declining to publish the name and has not independently verified the identity of the whistleblower.

President Donald Trump has released a new ad on Twitter that uses some inflammatory language to attack Democrats and defend the President. Trump tweeted the ad while the public impeachment hearings were going on on Tuesday.
The ad makes reference to a tweet from Mark Zaid, the Ukraine whistleblower’s lawyer, where he mentions a ‘coup’. Trump’s defenders have tried to make much of this and now Trump is linking it to Democrats’ impeachment push.
“Impeachment is a charade,” the ad begins, before talking about Zaid’s tweet.
“They promised a coup and now they’re trying to carry it out,” the ad thunders.
“The Democrats are trying to overthrow President Trump, undo the 2016 election and silence our voices. Don’t let them!”
