In 2012, we moved out of the St.Paul Street Studio, and by 2013 we had begun craving a new studio space. We decided that we were tired of landlords and we found that we preferred a space close to where we were living. We decided to look into building a studio addition on to our home. It was important that Krys and I each have our own space and we didn’t want to share the air between studios or with the house. The studios had to be separate. Our home only had a tiny back yard, so the footprint of the studio would have to be small. The only way to create the minimum space that we required was to build up, and the only way that the City would allow a 2 storey addition was if it was attached to the existing house. We had to figure out how to create a space that was separate, but attached! We ended up deciding to create a two storey structure that was separate, but attached by a bridge to the send floor! By lowering the main floor to ground level, we were able to achieve a 12’ ceiling in the lower studio and 16’ cathedral ceiling in the upper studio. The upper studio also included a storage loft and wonderful light from 12’ arch windows and skylights. My lower studio opened up to the gardens and deck. The space would be much smaller than what we were used to, but very efficient. #markfelliott #markelliott #arthivestudio #painting #mixedmedia #art #fineart #visualart #canadianpainting #canadianart #contemporarypainting #niagaraartist #artniagara #artiststudio #artistatwork #artistinstudio #artistinstagram #emergingart #emergingartist #newcontemporary #newcontemporaryart #contenporaryartist #abstractart #abstracted #atelier (at Downtown St. Catharines) https://www.instagram.com/p/CL7i3V6DWeA/?igshid=1fthlkk2q06hl
