synopsis in which mark admits his attraction to you
you released a heavy sigh, your best friends all overflowing on your couch. "i've babysat all of your children. can't you all do this one favor for me? the only one who has babysat melanie is jinyoung"
jinyoung nodded according to your statement. five of them chorused in groans and whines. "we all have plans tonight. spare us?" jackson pleaded, gripping youngjae's hand.
you glared at him, "well i have plans too and it's more important than regular, old partying. now," you pulled out your secret weapon. signaling your daughter to come over from your loveseat.
melanie giddily stood by your side and the guys visibly cringed. they didn't want to upset melanie and that's exactly why she's your secret weapon.
you tapped her full head of curls and pointed at the group in front of you both. smirking as they quivered and held onto each other for dear life. "pick who you want to babysit you bub"
melanie narrowed her eyes and tapped her chin. inquisitively eyeing her contestants, filling them with fright. her feet eventually moved towards east.
yugyeom pretended to pass out and the group collectively broke in laughter. but he wasn't even her pick. melanie stopped at mark's knees who clearly didn't even know what was going on.
he placed his phone to the side and picked up the child, placing her on his lap.
"mark, do you even know what's going on?" jackson stared at him in disbelief. mark pulled out his headphones, "huh?"
"looks like you have to babysit mel for the night, mark" you said. snickering when the other six let out sighs of relief.
"oh. okay" mark shrugged, smiling down at melanie.
"why did we have this whole dramatic scene if mark was willing to do it in the first place?" bambam exclaimed in shock.
you shrugged, "you're all free to leave"
"so, i have to babysit because you're going on a date?" mark questioned from your left, watching you struggle to keep up your towel and hold a dress at the same time.
"exactly" you said, handing the dress you had chosen to mark while you fixed your towel and grabbed the heels from by your closet door.
mark held the dress by it's metal hanger and glanced into the dress section of your closet. spotting a dress that would look even more impressive on your frame. "i think that wine dress looks better" mark commented.
you looked at the dress he was referencing to and nodded. "i agree but it's a bit tighter on me. wouldn't want to turn him away with my chub" you laughed. but mark furrowed his eyebrows at you.
"you're going to catfish him?" his eyes followed you as you walked over to dresser to fish out some fitting intimates.
"i wouldn't call it— anyway, it's probably not going to work out anyway so who cares" you shrugged.
mark nodded. "but if that's the case just wear the dress"
you sighed and spared your persistent friend a glance to know that he had won. "fine"
"i'm ready!" mark heard while sliding another glove onto melanie's arm. he stood up and grabbed her hand. "mommy's ready"
"do i look like a princess uncle mark?" melanie questioned while they turned the corner from her room and into the main hallway.
"you look like a true princess, mel—" mark was saying until he saw you at the end of the hallway. he felt his heartbeat pick up and his palms get sweaty.
"ooooo! look at my little princess" you cooed at your daughter who raced to your side.
mark was at a loss for words. that dress fit you in all the right places. "so do you, ___" mark blurted whatever was on his mind. and that was that you belonged in somebody's fairytale obviously.
you inhaled sharply and felt heat take over your cheeks. "thank you mark"
you grabbed melanie's hand and mark hurried to fall suit behind the two you. "how's junior?" you exited that detour of being flustered. remembering that mark is one of your best friend's, not your date tonight.
"a pain in my— ahhhh—" mark realized who was also in the hallway with him.
melanie snorted, "you can curse, uncle mark. mommy does it all the time" she nonchalantly snitched on you, her mother.
mark looked at you in surprise. you all entered your kitchen and you turned around with an awkward smile.
"uhhh— force of habit?"
"right" mark chuckled. "i'll make melanie some dinner"
"thank you" you sighed and sat at the island with your daughter.
"you're not leaving right now?"
you shook your head, "the date is at seven. it's only six—thirty, i don't want to be too early"
mark shook his head. "does it really matter?"
"time is everything, mark. but i'll leave right now i guess" you gathered your necessities and slid from the stool.
you placed a loving kiss to the crown of melanie's head. "i'll be back in a couple hours, lovebug. behave for uncle mark, okay?"
"of course, mommy" she smiled.
mark closed the oven which held dinosaur nuggets inside and followed you to the front door. he pulled you into a tight hug.
"have fun, okay? if this guy makes you feel bad i'll beat him up" he quipped playfully. you giggled but nodded your head nonetheless.
mark pulled away but held your shoulders protectively. "and if there's any trouble, call me"
"i promise, mark"
mark stared at the bourbon in his glass. having done everything he was required to do tonight. the last task was taken care of a whopping ten minutes ago. melanie was passed out in her tiana dress but she insisted to keep it on and mark wasn't arguing with someone else's child so he just let her sleep in it.
he grabbed the glass and took another sip. his mind unwinding a little bit more. but that soon vanished when he heard the front door open. the sound of heels and keys letting him know that it was just you.
you strolled into the kitchen with a stoic look on your face.
"oh, hey— was it not good?" mark began to greet you but then he saw your facial expression and frowned.
you huffed and sat on the stool closest to him on the right. eyeing his glass. "sucked ass".
mark sighed, "elaborate"
"at first, it was fine. but then when i actually started to flirt he said he wasn't into big women" you reached out for his glass and mark just let you have it with no hassle.
you downed what was left and placed it back on the island. "story of my fucking life".
mark took the glass and refilled it. "you went on a date with a boy," he gulped half of it. sliding the rest to you.
"a man would be able to appreciate a woman of your size" you began to chug what was left but choked when hearing the end of his sentence.
you stared at your friend with narrowed eyes. studying his words over and over again.
"what?" mark inquired.
"or maybe he just draws the line at fat" you replied.
mark shook his head. "you're not fat, this is not fat" mark puts a hand on your stomach.
you looked down at his hand then back up at him. placing the glass in front of you. "then what is it?" you tested.
"love" he answered.
on cue, you became a flustered mess and threw your head back in laughter. "you're so Goddamn cheesy"
mark gripped your love through your dress gently, "seriously, ___, there's people who really love what you have to offer"
you snorted. "and they probably just have a fat fetish" you grumbled.
mark hummed and removed his hand from you, "or it's a preference for their girl to have a bit of meat on their bones"
"let me ask, are you one of them?" you tilted your head. confused a bit to why mark was capping hard for your size.
"would it bother you if i was?" mark fired back boldly.
you bit your lip and glossed your eyes over him. meeting his eyes after, "hmm, i don't know"
"why?" mark did the exact same thing.
"because, and i might be taking this the wrong way, but i'm catching a vibe that you just prefer me" you mumbled. scared if he was going to flat out reject you right now.
but to your surprise, "you're taking it the right way then" mark said.
"are we flirting right now?" you thought out loud.
"is it working?" mark raised his eyebrows.
"very much" you licked your lips and straightened your posture.
"then yes, yes we are"
"would you like to stay the night?" you suggested.
"if it means i can show you how much i adore your 'love' and everything after then yes" that was it, that was the final straw. you slid from the stool and held out your hand for mark to take.
Fluff request (you can choose if the 2 are dating or not) You are ethnically Chinese, but don't know how to speak Mandarin (never learned/adopted) & you get frustrated with cultural identity so Mark teaches you both Mandarin & about Chinese culture. -since you want it to be anonymous-
yes thank you for your request & sorry for the long wait! had some difficulties so ive done some research, turns out the cultures are exactly the same as the ones in my mind ╰(⸝⸝⸝´꒳`⸝⸝⸝)╯ hehe enjoy!
“Mark, Mark!” you called out for him, even though he was just beside you. You hit his arm continuously to get his attention, he was so engrossed with his games that he hushed you.
“Okay what, what? Stop hitting me,” he answered and moved close to you.
You showed him an article written in chinese and asked him to translate it for you. It was about a chinese-taiwanese singer that was going to have an asia tour and you are a huge fan.
“Jeez, not again,” he pouted and started reading the article in silence to translate it.
“It says here that he is going to tour around Hong Kong first then China,” he read, focusing. You were so hyped, you went closer and asked, “here? Is he coming here? Faster!”
“I’m getting there, shhhh,” he shushed you and continued. He then suddenly stopped and looked at you, “hmm translate it yourself since you're so eager,” and stuck his tongue out.
“I didn't learn Mandarin, Mark! You know that, what a mean boyfriend,” you said, squeezing his cheeks. He pulled your hands off and rubbed his cheeks, “chinese culture is easy to understand and so is the language.”
You admit defeat. “Okay teach me now.” You just wanted to get this over with, you just wanted to know if your favourite chinese singer is coming to your country!
He took his phone and wrote something, there was three chinese characters. “This means, I love you. Wo ai ni.”
You repeated after him and he taught you some other words, it was okay. But you never knew that Mandarin was a hard subject, you thought it was just a language. Now, not so much. It is hard to learn.
“Now, I’ll tell you some culture,” he stayed silent for a while, thinking what to tell you.
“Hmm, it is almost similar to korean culture but the slight difference is probably the language and the way we dress,” he shrugged. He then asked you back about the words he taught you earlier before which you forgot completely. Hey, you told him that it was hard and now you acknowledge it as an impressive language.
“After 2 hours of educating, nothing?” he asked, thinking it’s unbelievable.
“Just translate for me please,” you begged him, you put your hands together and pouted.
He sighed and nodded. “Okay, okay.”
You cheered and told him, “you can teach me about chinese culture and Mandarin next time, I’m interested.”
Mark nodded and read the article, “yup he is coming, he’s also having a meet and greet session.”
You were happy and you cheered even louder. You get to meet your favourite singer, yes yes yes!!!!
Mark rolled his eyes. “Seriously, you don't even understand his lyrics and you like him so much.”
“Yes, I do. I read the translated lyrics, he is a great artiste, he’s my favourite singer,” you stated, still cheering.
Mark pouted in jealousy, “hey I’m supposed to be your favourite singer, I’m also your boyfriend.”
I’m running really low of requests, do send in yours! Thank you!

“No, ____ I’m telling you what I saw, I’m not lying,” Mark said, his tone serious. You couldn’t believe your ears, is he really saying those words? He said your boyfriend was having an affair with another girl and you should break up with him. Hilarious.
“You’re funny,” you replied with sarcasm, hinting him to stop this joke. He groaned in frustration and shook your shoulders, “listen to me man, I’m serious.”
You wanted to fight back but right on cue, you got a message which interrupted the argument between you and Mark. It was from your boyfriend.
‘Meet me at the park.’ You were kinda taken aback from the tone of the text. You couldn’t literally hear him saying that, but during the situation where Mark said he was cheating, it seems like he was kinda serious.
You decided to prove Mark wrong, “hah, look at this. A text from him to meet him at the park. Guess you’re wrong.”
He rolled his eyes. “If you don’t believe me. By all means, go.”
You smiled, thinking that you won the argument. Grabbing your bag, you strutted out, shouting a goodbye to Mark on the way out. You were glad that you proved him wrong because you rarely get to do that. Mark is Mark, he is quiet and observative.
Your boyfriend was standing at the park, hands in pocket. You brightened up when he turned towards you. The sky was getting gloomy so you quickened your pace and headed his way.
“Annyeong! Jagi why did you-“
“Look, I’ve got to be honest to you ____ah,” he cut you off before you even finished your sentence. Suddenly, you felt scared and started having doubts to whatever you’ve said earlier.
“….yes..?” you responded.
“Let’s…breakup.”
You blinked rapidly. He must be kidding, right?
“You’re a good girl and I wanted to be honest. Look, I fell in love with another girl when your attention was clearly on that Mark guy, I tried to stop myself but you know, our connection just….faded.”
“Ah,” that was the only word you managed to choke out. You really didn’t expect that, well not yet anyway. Your attention was on Mark but not that much anymore. You had a tiny crush on him, but it faded as time went.
“I’m sorry and goodbye,” he said, giving you a pat then ran towards a girl. It was soon raining, he used his jacket and sheltered both of them while running to get shade. You, however, stood there, looking at them.
What did you do to deserve this? Couldn’t the breakup be more formal? Can’t he at least let you respond to the breakup properly? ‘I’m sorry’ and that’s it? Questions were coming out continuously and there you were, under the rain, dumbfounded.
‘Mark was right, he was right.’ you told yourself, blaming. You should’ve listened to get a mental preparation. Now, you just feel so helpless, what do you do now?
The rain was pelting onto you. Suddenly, an umbrella appeared, protecting you from the rain. You looked towards the person holding it, no doubt it was Mark.
“Told you,” he said softly, holding your arms. He threw a small towel over your head and ordered you to start walking.
“I told you what I saw. You should’ve listened, look at you now,” he sighed, flinging his arm around you to provide some warmth. You didn’t answer him, you were filled with guilt.
“Did he say why?” he asked, breaking the silence between both of you.
You nodded and shivered a little. He wrapped his arm tighter. “He said I paid too much attention to you, so yeah.”
He looked at you and snorted. “That was because he was so ignorant to you.”
You mumbled “yeah guess so” and kept your head down. You were really cold and Mark paced up so both of you can get shelter faster.
When both you and him reached a shelter, he held you and said,
“From now on, you pay your attention to me. To me, only.“
