Which parent does your character take after more (if either)? Which are they closest to?
Bellatrixis a Black through and through. She is incredibly similar to Cygnus with herdemeanor, drive, and opinions. She has been her father’s daughter since she wasyoung, far more interested in his teachings than whatever Druella was makingthem sit through. It was clear from her earliest signs of magic that she wasgoing to be an incredibly powerful witch, and from her perspective, he wasdoing all he could to enable that. He knew what he was talking about.
Neitherof them are particularly affectionate, but Orion and Walburga make him lookwarm and fuzzy. They show their caring in similar ways—completed tasks, thoughtfulgifts, and an understanding of the people in their lives. Part of it is the timeshe spent with him. Respect was valued above all else. Challenging, dark magichad a beautiful allure. Power was the ultimate goal. Yes, her beliefs were nurtured, but her leaning towards him is part of her nature, as well. It extends beyond Cygnusraising her as his heir as effectively as he could despite convention.
Shealways liked Cygnus more for it. Bellatrix butted heads with Druella at mostturns. She didn’t hold her teachings in the same esteem. As she aged, sherespected her as her mother, but it didn’t extend as far with her person. Shefelt held back despite getting some of her regality and poise from her. Sheknows the consequences of being emotional as a woman and the value of hidingit. She always felt distant from such emotions, but putting on the proper oneswas one she learned from Druella. She had to teach herself those, and hersocietal mannerisms take after her mother more than she would ever admit. Thetruer ones are all Cygnus.
Theirdynamic is shifting again. He knows she wants a hand in running the familyaffairs that will persist beyond her eventual marriage. She is already closingin on him in rank in the Death Eaters, and if he stepped back, he would clearthe way for her. Bellatrix feels like she can push a little harder now, but shestill trusts that when he knows the time is right, he won’t hold her back. Itwill be the final shift in their relationship from parental to peers, built onmutual respect. She would much rather their relationship be based on what isearned rather than what is expected, and her preference towards him only growsas they reach that point.
