How has your Sole changed from leaving Vault 111 to now? Are they happy?
(I’m very late on this, it’s been a heck of a week between the two jobs, but I wanted to do it anyway)
If you’d asked Marlowe a few weeks ago, she might have said that yes, she’s happy. Even not knowing what happened to Shaun, she had everything she needed. She was happy with MacCready, and starting to work on a room for Duncan, if they could get him moved. She spent time with her friends, and led the Minutemen with a lot of passion and love. She’d found a family.
Finding her son and the Institute has made things complicated. She’s not sure what to think now, and is spending a lot of time pondering the question about what family really means. What it will mean for her.
I’m confident she’ll work it out, though. Vault 111 spit out a scared woman with nothing - her husband dead, her son taken, and everyone she’d ever known long dead. Her only survival skills were the ability to charm people, and to throw a grenade. She insisted on staying in that bright blue vault suit for far too long, rationalizing that it was keeping radiation out but in reality, she knew that stepping out of it meant leaving behind the last of who she’d been.
Now, even though she’s uncertain about Shaun, she’s proud of what she’s accomplished. As of now, all of the factions are not blowing each other up. The Minutemen are strong. She’s picked up a lot of skills, and she’s built places that others can live in. She could swing a hammer when she woke up, but she certainly didn’t have the drive to really put together homes, gardens, hospitals, everything. She’s really dug in on helping create better places for many other people.
Given some time to work this latest development out, she’s going to be just fine. She’s got her friends, who have become her family. I think she’s going to give synth Shaun a chance. The Marlowe that left the vault couldn’t have dreamed of that, but a year later, she’s seen too much, known too many synths, and to her, they’re all in the Commonwealth together.
She’s a leader now, and through leading others, she’s changed as a person. It’s a good change, and I think very soon that yes, she will be able to say she’s happy.
