It's so cool that they made Boone talk in Fallout 4

Walking Deacon at the park today, a little girl confidently approached us and politely asked if she could pet Deacon (“Can I please pet your dog?”). Of course I said yes, told her his name was Deacon and that he particularly enjoyed getting ear skritches. After looking at me blankly for a moment, she responded in Spanish that she didn’t understand.

Luckily, I am equipped to have a simple conversation about dogs in Spanish, and we talked about Deacon’s preferences for pets (ears, belly), whether she had a dog (she did not), and what kind of dog is her favorite (THIS dog) (emphatically, lol).

After a bit, her mom called her away, she said thanks, and scampered off. Hours later I’m still thinking about what a kindred spirit that child was because if I was learning a new language, I too would first learn how to ask if it was okay for me to pet a dog. 🫡🐕
