Egrets are ungainly of walk and waddle. It is when they take flight that they transform into an epitome of extraordinary ethereal elegance.
I did not know, till I had taken these photos, that the wings of birds can be translucent, to the point where one can visually dissect out every single delicate, delicious, diaphanous detail.
One should not be surprised at this though. If, in the dark of night, a flashlight is held close to one’s fingertip, the resultant translucent red glow informs one that the human frame too is translucent to light to surprising depths.
