Making big moves at Crim's today
This Christmas has been a bit different. My partner's mom came down to visit, and my mom came down to visit too. We're not at the 'let our parents mingle' stage of our relationship and we both don't believe we'll be there for a while yet, so we've spent this crims apart. We'll be doing our own little crims on the 28th, which is nice, but we would've rather done it on crims. We're both in our early 40s and both have ... strained relationships with our parents.
We've kind of decided that next year is ours and ours alone. No ifs, ands, or buts. We're going to be booking a vacation to Banff, AB in January or February for December 2024, and our parents, family, and friends are just going to have to deal. We want the time to ourselves. We're going to just get really small things for each other and really small things for our friends and families, and we're going to fucking disappear for a week at crims next year. Gonna rent a nice suite with like, a hot tub and a little kitchen and do a real nice, low-key crims season with no family or anything. Maybe sit around a fire and have some nice drinks. Maybe go for a nice hike, maybe just spend the time in bed? Who knows! We will be together though, and that's all we really want.

The Uglies trilogy by Scott Westerfield is great, he actually wrote a series where the outright plot is that a bunch of teenage junkies overthrow the government by using adrenaline rush to combat mind control I’m not kidding that’s seriously the plot I love these books
