Plant of the Day
Saturday 1 June 2019
The mural on the walls of the Fan Museum conservatory, Greenwich, London, depicts the South African sub-shrub Melianthus major (honey flower). This handsome evergreen has glaucous leaves up to 45cm in length. In spring and summer there are small, tubular maroon flowers in erect racemes which I saw a few days later blooming on a plant outside the conservatory of Myddleton House, Enfield, UK.
