Ok, but what if James wasn't an asshole because he wanted to

I refuse to think that James (will do anything for my friends) Potter was an asshole to Snape just because he was spoiled. No. I think it had not to do with Lily. Imagine that he was just as mean to Slytherins as any other griffindor his age during the first year, because all eleven years old are dipshits, ok. Following, he doesn't give two actual fucks to Snape on second year, except when Snape talks shit about his friends or his house.

But on third year, everything goes upside down, because now he and his friends are animagi and Snape's best friend, the redhead griffindor that hates him and his friends comes back from Christmas holiday smelling different, amazing if he was honest. That drives his attention to her. And also back to Snape's, who stands Way. To. Close. To. Her.

And suddenly James has a crush on her. And he wants her to notice him, but doesn't know how to do it and - Snappy is to close again!

So, when they were having potions with Slytherin, he senses that smell again and - oh fuck! His teenage hormones strike him! And he just focuses on the redhead sitting in front of him. Leaning. On. Snappy. And he can't help it, he wants to show her that he's way better than that Slytherin and that he'd be the perfect mate for her to have babies because he's rich, so he'd be able to provide a lot and he'd protect her and their - Oh Merlin! That can't be happening!

And Sirius notices. And for the next three years the marouders make their mission to prevent James from attacking Snape or "showing his antlers" to Lily during "mating season".

But everything changes when she starts taking birth control potions at the beginning of their seventh year and James can just be himself around her and he finds her one night, crying in the halls, curled up in her perfect uniform and he just sits beside her and hugs her and tells her nice things, sings that muggle song she murmurs to herself when she is kinda sad and stays there, in silence until she looks at him without crying. But he doesn't kiss her, he doesn't tell a joke, he doesn't ask why she was crying, he's not mean to her. He just look at her with lovely eyes and asks her if she wants to get some pumpkin pie from the kitchen, while he dries the tears from her cheeks. She says yes. And in the next day she's not sitting with Snape.

It takes up to a month for Lily to realize James wasn't mean to Snape anymore. Two more weeks for her to see him as a friend. And five more to acknowledge to herself that she had a crush on him.

And soon enough she kisses him. She. Because she wasn't going to wait to see if he was still in love with her before acting, but he was! And they start dating.

And then, it's mating season again.

Sirius: Eu sei, sempre tenho razão (Sirius joga o cabelo para o lado e sai andando sem olhar para trás)

Remus: Não estava falando dele, não é? (Sussurra)

James: Não (Ele ri observando Regulus ao longe)
