VIIII - L'Ermite - The Hermit
The Hermit looks back on life to find peace as it ends. He represents Aging, Isolation and Contemplation but also Loneliness and Weakness.
He knows there are some paths that are meant to be walked alone whether by choice or not. As the fire illuminates the memories he has no other option but to trust his wisdom and calmness to face old demons and thoughts that travel along.
The fool carried a stick, staff, or club, which, according to Flögel, was originally nothing more than the plant (Typha Linnæi) which grows in marshes, and which was commonly known as the fools’ club, or sceptre.

XIIII - Tempérance - Temperance
The Temperance is a guardian angel and she has the ability of uniting opposites. She represents Harmony, Serenity, Union and Health but also Rush and Imbalance.
She will remind you that a balanced life requires sacrificing and reshuffling priorities from time to time. No amount of sleep will make up for the sleepless nights spent working and expensive gifts will not rebuild relationships. Whether your main focus is on work, pleasure or money, remember that harmony in life takes hard work and taking a step back (or a nap) goes a long way.
(Also, I know we no longer use VIIII or XIIII but in the original Marseille deck that's how it was written and I wanted to be keep it as that's what I'm using as inspiration).
VIII - La Justice - Justice
Justice' stoic nature is to carefully weight everything before making a decision. She represents Prudence, Reconciliation and Balance but also Hesitation and Doubts. In a world that is ever changing, she searches for her answer in joy and sorrow, the rich and poor. And once is it done, she passes her judgement ruthlessly in order to maintain the balance and fairness.
There are a few cards that hold a special meaning to me, this is one of them and I'm not exactly happy with how the illustration turned out. I spent way too long on it and had to move on. I'll pick it up again one day.
VXII - L'Étoile - The Star
The Star renews your passion and offers inspiration when you want to get back up and fight for your goals. When the next obstacle arrives, it will give you the energy necessary to overcome it. It represents Purification, Harvest, Harmony but also Vulnerability and Selfishness.
I made the Star, the Moon and the Sun in a similar style because they seemed to fit well together.
XIII - La Mort - Death - Unlabelled
This card has a bad reputation - understandably no one likes to be reminded of their own mortality, but in truth it represents Change, Opportunity, Humility but also Decline and Suffering.
Death shows that some things have to make way for others, the cycle of life and death is everlasting within nature and we are not immune to it.
Do not get discouraged when you sense you might be losing or ending some part of your life, it will only result in new experiences. Accept it, cherish the memories fondly and embrace new ones
XVIIII - Le Soleil - The Sun
The Sun brings the attention to one's personality and character, the soul is refreshed and protected from chaos. Under the sun, life restores the truth and beauty. A need to be good and connect with others.
The Sun represents Energy, Motivation and Cooperation, but also Anxiety and Rivalry
I made the Star, the Moon and the Sun in a similar style because they seemed to fit well together.
XVI - La Maison Dieu - The Tower - The House of God
This card illustrates men's ability to build magnificent creations for them to be destroyed by hubris. The Tower represents Endurance, Building, Resistance but also Vanity and Selfishness.
It takes a constant fuel of determination and perseverance to build something spectacular, days and nights struggling and fighting. But if your strength stems from greed or pride you will inevitable overestimate your creation's limits and fall back down with it.
This card will remind you to exceed, not your peers, but yourself.
